Take the recent reviews with a pinch of salt!!

We have just returned from a 4 night break at the Falesia and would have loved to have stayed longer.

Staff in the hotel were very friendly and accomodating. We requested a room overlooking the pool and they were happy to oblige. Our room was large and spacious, clean and bright.

The production team are very friendly and offer many activties throughout the day, without being too pushy. Night entertainment is mainly by the production team and is the best we've seen at a Thomson Gold hotel.

The restaurant is modern and again staff are professional. Food consisted of soup or various cold starters, couple of meat and fish dishes, a pasta dish and veg, various puddings, ice cream, fruit and cheeses. We enjoyed all our meals and never had the same twice.

The hotel is in a quiet resort as the brochure states. We hired a car which was reasonably priced. You are only a 10 minute drive to Vilamoura and Albufeira.

Overall a wonderful holiday and we would recommend it if you would like a relaxing break.

Stayed with my wife at The Falesia for two weeks May 2008. There is nothing brilliant or exceptional to report about this Hotel but yet again in our view there are no major problems. However we definitely do not consider it to be a four star Hotel -three star yes-- but no more than that.
The Hotel is surrounded by well cultivated gardens, water features. ponds and attractive walkways.
It is situated some distance from the beach access to which is gained by climbing many steps. The Sheraton Hotel next door allows guests to use its lift thus cutting down the number of steps to climb by almost half. However once on the beach you will find the effort has been worth while.
Accommodation--- Very small --could do with renovating. Guests should be made aware of the fact almost half the rooms in the Hotel are smaller than others. Those supporting an arch type feature above the balconies are bigger than the rest. This fact excludes the superior rooms of course.
The rooms at the back of the Hotel overlook a golf driving range and there is no need therefore to have an alarm clock in your room!
Fridge---Very very very small and for this luxury we were charged 40 euros. Scandalous when the Hotel considers it to be four star.
Food--- Well prepared but basic. Lacking in variety but neverthless we never went hungry.
Cutlery---Left a lot to be desired. Some knives and forks were pitted and unclean. You could find some ok however after rummaging around
Poolside-- Sufficient sun loungers for guests--BUT if I had the opportunity I would throw them all away as the majority were passed their sell by date!!
Entertainment-- Rather hit and miss. Reps tried their best but Simon Cowell would have given them the thumbs down and the ominous sound of his horn sooner rather than later.
Day Time activities----Reps do their best but no more than that.
Trips Out--- Absolutely no need to pay over the odds taking a Thomson trip. Just go and see Alex next to Trotters Bar (a couple of minutes from Hotel) He has a mini bus and will take you anywhere for much less than the exorbitant Thomson prices.
Would we recommend the Hotel? No not really. Nothing exceptional about it. It was OK but no more than that.

Have just returned from seven days at the Falesia Hotel 15-22nd May 2008.

The hotel is to normal Gold standard, has beautiful gardens and a really good heated indoor pool with Jacuzzi.
Rooms are alternatively thin and thick. This meant that in a thin room, either dressing table drawers could be opened or the bed could be walked past, but not both. Our room was clean, but with some cracked floor tiles and mould growth around the bath.

The welcome meeting was to a poor standard with very little detail given on trips. The normal leaflet containing trip details was a very poor photocopy. A free trip was offered, but at the cost of a sales pitch for blankets. This may be something to do with the hotel, but should not be offered by Thomson. Unusually for a Gold hotel, no health and safety or emergency telephone number was given out.

The Restaurant layout was the best we have seen in a Gold hotel. Food choice was fairly good and well presented. On one occasion at evening dinner, half the hot food section was closed three quarters of an hour before the restaurant was due to close and caused a long queue to form. We had intended to complain, but the Maître d’ didn’t appear for the next three nights. A number of restaurant staff were less than friendly. More than one waiter looked as though they were on some kind of community service scheme and didn’t want to be there.

Unless you are prepared to eat early and rush down to get a seat, forget the entertainment. Unlike other Gold hotels, this one only has inside entertainment because of complaints from the neighboring Pine Cliffs Resort. We ended up going out most nights to “Brothers” bar which sells draught Guinness. We did however manage to see a comedian who was very good and a production show which was to the normal gold standard.

The hotel is in a very poor location being surrounded on three sides by the Pine Cliffs Golf Resort. There are three ways down to the beach, but two require a fair walk and a lot of steps down. One route takes a lot longer, but is by a sand road all the way down to the beach.

I have saved the worst comments for last. If you want to use the fridge to keep your own drinks cool, forget it as the hotel want an extortionate 25 euros per week. We take euro traveler cheques with us as these should be treated just like euro notes. The Falesia think that because of their location they can get away with charging 10 euros per person per transaction to change them. Changing a 50 euro cheque effectively means a 20% commission. In disgust we went to the local Santanda Bank thinking they would change cheques at face value. They wanted 20 euros per person per transaction. They must think the British are stupid.

The cheapest bar we found charged 6 euros for two large and two small beers. On one occasion we stopped at a beach bar owned by the Pine Cliffs Resort. When we finally ceased to be invisible to the staff and subsequently received the bill, the same four drinks cost 21 euros. You have been warned.

We have stayed in a number of different Gold hotels and thought we would try something different. We won’t be going back to this one.

We have recently returned from the Falesia and we must say it is in a lovely setting. The food was acceptable but for a few times the meat needed cooking a little more. I think they need an English cook to help them along with our dishes. They also seem to put garlic in most dishes and onions mixed with the mushrooms in the mornings. It is a good walk to the beach, down many steps and we found it was easier to get a taxi to the next village for the beach, where there were only a few steps down. Our biggest gripe was the air conditioning. When we arrived it was very hot and being on the ground floor we couldnt leave our patio door open all the time. everyone was complaining about the air con. They just had the fan blowing the
room air around and when we complained we learned that the air con is not put on until May 1st. This made it most uncomfortable for us all and when we complained to reception they said they could not do anything about it as it couldnt go on until May 1st. I think this was most unreasonable and obviously a money saving thing. I wonder if the heating in the winter doesnt go on until its really cold. I dont intend to go back to the Falescia because of this. People need to be comfortable according to the weather. All hotels weve used in the past have had air con whatever time of year. So if you are going there shortly dont forget to take a fan with you. Entertainment was mediocre. Drinks are expensive and if you like your tea/coffee in your room and you havent booked a superior take your kettle along.

We stayed at the Falesia in May 08 for eleven nights. The hotel is only 2 years old so it is in very good condition and not tired as other hotels we've stayed at. We payed extra for a superior room which was very spacious. You get free use of the safe, fruit on arrival, a large bottle of water each day and tea and coffee making facilities with a superior room. You don't get use of the fridge though and it's quite expensive to rent it!
The restaurant is one of the best I've seen with different areas and levels and tastefully decorated. It has a very relaxing atmosphere.
The food though didn't match the surroundings and did get very repetitive. Chips were on the menu every night! It was mostly british food and not much international quisine. The show cooking always seemed to be beef just cooked in a different sauce each night!
The hotel is in a pleasant quiet area surrounded with pine trees.
The beach is about a 25 minute walk away but you can take a short cut through the Sheraton hotels grounds to their lift or steps to the beach. The beaches here are lovely and kept very clean.
The shows were not bad but was mainly the Thomson reps with the occassional act flown in from the UK.

Just returned from the Falesia. What a boring holiday!. The staff were friendly, the food was average, the room was crap (311A). Do not accept this room if you are offered this!!. I immediately asked to change rooms, but apparently the hotel was fully booked, even though I was prepared to pay the extra for a superior room. The food was acceptable. There are 2 sides to the hotel (front and back) The front gets no sun whatsoever unless you are on the east side. The rear is better and lighter. The rep is next to useless (Thomson Rubbish), One example was, we asked, “our room is small and dark” her reply was, “The sun’s not out today”.
Elderly people asleep everywhere in the afternoon, halfway through reading the paper (on their head). Very over 70’s orientated.
Give it a wide berth, this has put me off Portugal for good.

Oh! It also rained for best part of the holiday.

Stay away, unless you’re dead from the neck down!!!!!

The hotel is situated is a very nice quiet and pretty area, no passing traffic and the whole hotel is clean and tidy. The Portugese staff are helpful and very friendly, beaches superb. That's the good parts, the not so good now. There is no local food on offer in the hotel it's just English food done by foreigners and the qulaity was dreadful on our first night. When they do cook fish it is dry and over-cooked and best avoided, lamb seems to be the best dish by far and the fresh fruit is far better than anything back home. Since Jan this year there is a no smoking policy in Portugal but that did not stop the British guests smoking in the rooms and the smell carried out into the corridors, not very pleasant, staff should do something about this, it is not acceptable given the money paid.

The British Thomson guides took an instant dislike to us and would completely blank you out and were not particularly pleasant to deal with and the entertainment staff, whilst they worked hard and performed generally very well, followed suit, it was as if they ganged up us for no apparent reason and were plain rude.

The worst thing by far, the FREE trip advertised by Thomson to Portimao, yes it was free and it did get to Portimao, after 2.5 hours on a bus, but then we had 1 hr 10 mins in Portimao before we had to return - so we thought - then off to Silves and the truth emerged, it was a sales trip for BEDDING and BLANKETS which went on for 1.5 hours until I complained very strongly to insist the bus returned, it did 2 minutes later. NO mention made of the sales outing when we enquired, booked, boarded, nothing until we were about 5 minutes from the sales pitch. It took 1 hr 20 mins to get back, we arrived back some 2 hours later than promised, extremely annoyed and very disappointed with Thomson.

Thomson need to learn that customers will not tolerate trips which are misleading, this certainly was, we were conned into a FREE trip that was nothing more than a sales pitch, that was a waste of a day and Thomson put their name to it, they need to make sure that if they insist of having PAL promotions put on free trips that a Thomson representative gets on the bus BEFORE it leaves and explains the whole excursion so that people who are being misled can get off.

I would not recommend this Hotel or Thomson for the reasons above, a one-off (?), but other people had the same issues as us. 'Quality remains long after the price has been forgotten' - Charles Rolls.
