“Worst receptionist ever”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Receptionist was very Rude , more focused on her telenovela while I had a compliant about the Internet and plugs not working. Charged us five euro for coffee breakfast when all I had was a sip of coffee because It was so bad and left hotel since taxi finally arrived.

Room Tip: Don't go, long walk , rude staff

Overall very good. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Very clean and spacious. The breakfast is okay. The only problem was the massive hill. We would stay here again and think for a 2 star it is worth the money u pay, the pool isn't great but there are so many nice beaches around we didn't find it a problem.

Read and re read the reviews prior, it is only a two star little hotel but we found it all OK, Hilda on reception very pleasant and helpful, the room we had was fine, a little balcony, usual hotel furniture, clean, linen and towels all very white and fluffy, plenty of hot water, yes the bathroom ceiling needed painting, the carpet marked but why have carpets, much prefer tiles, some rooms do have tiled floors, breakfast room very clean and good views, we found breakfast alright, usual continental, cereal, bread, juice, fruit etc. The reception bar area comfortable.

Yes it is at the top of a hill, we are used to hills where we live, but this was a big hill!! Also steps down to pool area, so you really must be fit, even we found it hard going the first two days but by the end of our stay we were definitely fitter.

It was very good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony with sea view and hope they have one when you arrive! Its no good wanting a double b...

It was a basic hotel up a hill with sea views ok for a short stay as it was near the harbour. A minus was only singles in each room and you need to ask for a sea view or you get the back end of the hotel looking at bins, sea view rooms had a balcony too so much nicer.

Room Tip: ask for sea view with balcony

I stayed at the Mar a Vista 26/08/2012 - 02/09/2012. We booked a return taxi with Yellow Fish Transfers which were brilliant, they were waiting for us in the airport, took us straight to our hotel and on the return journey they arrived 15 minutes early. Would highly recommend.
Our hotel was nice, it was basic but then it is only a 2 star so you shouldnt expect too much. Our room was on the ground floor by the swimming pool which is small but clean. Our room was cleaned everyday by the cleaners which was great. The reception staff are helpful and will call taxis for you if needed. Some people tended to bang their doors which woke me up a few times but other than that i would recommend this hotel if your looking for something cheap. There are also beautiful views of the beach.

Just returned from a 10 day stay at the Mar a Vista. On arrival (at about 3am) staff were helpful and checked us in all fine. I had made a mistake on our booking so had to pay for an extra night (I'd booked us in for the next day by mistake) and we shown to a small twin bed room with air con and a small window. It was clean but very simply furnished with a small fridge.

We'd paid for the breakfast for the one morning we arrived, so we assumed the b&b rooms were not provided with cooking appliances/facilities etc since ours literally only had a fridge. The next day we moved into our correct room and we were baffled to find that actually there were no self catering facilities at all. Only a fridge. We went to ask at reception about whether any facilities were provided to be met with confusion - and were informed that that was all that we got. We were quite shocked and a little angry about this, but alpharooms had specified our room as "Self Catered" so I suppose I should blame them for that! But anyway be aware that no self catering facilities are provided if you were expecting/needing some!

The pool area is very small but pleasant in the sun, but there is only 7 sun beds so it's a bit of a lottery as to whether you get one!

Throughout our stay we thought that the reception staff weren't very friendly, the majority of them always seemed to look like they'd rather be anywhere else! But there was one lady who helped us on our last day who rang our transfer company and sorted out times etc so she was great, but the only one out of all we saw.

Our room itself had a lovely balcony, but no air con which meant we had to leave the balcony doors open at night and ended up getting bitten which was horrid! But the room was like a sauna without the doors open and we couldn't sleep with them closed. The maids were great and the room was very clean whenever they'd been, which was almost every day for us.

The hotel is in a good location, and the steep hills getting to it really aren't that bad (and I am most definitely not a walk lover!) so don't let that put you off. It's only about 15 minutes walk from the main section of old town.

We went here in mid-August 2012, and paid quite a bit for our room for 10 days. We didn't think we'd got value for money at all, and we won't be going back. The hotel is fine for people who only want the very basic of accommodation and a central location, but if you need self catering facilities and a bit of a more comfortable holiday then this isn't the place for you.

A nice little no frills hotel, can't complain at all for the money we paid. Room basic but clean. Small balcony but lovely view. Pool and pool area very small but never got crowded as most people seemed to prefer the ten minute walk to the beach. It was a steep walk back up from the town and beach in the hot weather but not so bad at night when it had cooled down. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on the food. Overall a decent hotel, not for people that want posh and entertaining but there's plenty of entertainment in the town. We have paid more camping per night than we did for this hotel. Don't be afraid to give it a go as long as you don't mind the exercise walking back up the hill.
