“2nd visit and still has the best location in Albufeira”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

Had my first visit there 3 years ago so returned based on the previously visit. Weirdly i was in the extact same room (117) which was nice.
Brill points of the hotel are -
1- the location, 2nd to none on the beach, all rooms have beach view.
2 - view from your room and even better from the top floor
3- the staff, so friendly especially loved the barman who worked tues - sat, he'd worked there 23 years and was fab, made the best cocktails ever (a steal at 5 euros so worth a purchase)
4- rooms are large and airy with air con, balcony is great to chill out looking onto the beach
5- location, some steps and a street back from the main square
6 - it gets slated but i loved the breaky, you cant expect english bacon and sausage when in Portugal so don't winge about the lack of, plenty of hot stuff (they rotate franfurters with there bacon each day) eggs, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, etc etc plus the normal contental stuff. Coffee machine does a mean latte.
Downside is that is it rated as a 4 star hotel so anyone who doesn't read reviews before hand would be disappointed, 5 star views but the hotel i would rate as a decent 3 star and the bathrooms a low 3 star, bathrooms need a massive refurb, don't get me wrong they are spacious, clean and the showers are always hot and powerful but it is NOT a 4 star bathroom. The tiles were marked, the bath had bad staining on, just NOT what you would expect with the rating the hotel has. That said it was given the rating back in the day and all the 'awards' on the wall outside the restaurant for 'top hotel' 'gold awards' etc etc are from 1988 - 1989 etc.

All in all i would still stay here again, you can't beat the location.

We have just returned from our first 10 day visit to Portugal, staying in the Sol e Mar Hotel. As mentioned by other contributors, the hotel is lovely and clean with fantastic views. We went to sleep each night listening to the sea.
The food is rather mediocre with a dried up Lasagne one night and a Chicken Stroganoff with two little pieces of chicken and 99% mushrooms another night for dinner.

On previous reports on trip advisor, someone mentioned 49 steps up to the hotel, so I was quite concerned as I have had both hips and one knee replaced, but we found that if you go in the hotel lift to the ground floor you come out on the beach where the snack bars are. You can then walk up a slight incline through a tunnel under the hotel to get to the main strip. There is also another short incline up to the hotel, avoiding any steps.

The Staff were all excellent and it was just sad that some of the evening meals were not up to 4* standard.

We shall return again some day I am sure. Though Bed and Breakfast and NOT half board.

Room Tip: We had room 408 on the fourth floor, below the dining room. Convenient for the lift and quiet at ni...

just back from a 10 night stay at this great little hotel fantastic views from your room and even better from the bar area its in a great location for the many bars and restaurants in the old town which is much better than the strip area .The rooms at the hotel are very clean and new towels everyday the breakfast has plenty of choice from continental to hot breakfast ok so its not a full English but if you want one of them everyday there are loads of places in town that do them . We only stayed on a bed and breakfast basis so cant comment on evening meal . There were many restaurants in the town to try and we didn't have a bad meal anywhere and they are all very similar in price a little more exspensive over looking fishermans beach but very busy non the less .The evening entertainment was a man singing and playing the organ but we went out every night and he was finished when we got back the drinks are reasonably priced in hotel and good measures too we used to have a drink and sit on the balcony over looking the sea and chill out all in all a very enjoyable holiday will return one day

Room Tip: all rooms have great view but I believe the 6 on the roof have constant sun but a bit less private

Just back home from 7 nights at this hotel and as has been pointed out the hotel is a bit dated, it was built in the 1960's and I don't think it has been undated since. However it is very clean and the room was a good size with clean towels and bedding. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly except for the bar man who on our last day decided to scrape two chairs on the floor just in front of where I was sitting trying to get some sleep before our flight home. The hotel is very good location wise as extremely close to restaurants and bars and the beach.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room numbered 414, 415, 416, 417, 314, 315, 316 or 317, all these rooms are below t...
