Rocamar Exclusive Hotel & Spa
Ranked #44 of 154 Hotels in Albufeira

We visited the Rocamar for 4 days on B&B basis at begining of May. When we arrived at around midday, we were told our room wasn't going to be ready until 2pm, this was not a problem for us as it gave us a chance to go for a look around the area. Once back from some lunch and a wander, we were allocated room 506 which is the top floor of the hotel and a seaview room. Initial thoughts of the room was basic with the hotel being 3 star. Had a few evening meals in the hotel restaurant and we found these tasty and reasonablily priced (20ish euros for 2 meals and 2 drinks). The hotel is ideally located in relation to the old town, as it is only a 5 minute walk to all the bars, restaurants and shops. Albufeira is around a 40 minute journey from Faro airport so make sure you have a reliable transfer arranged in advance (as ours didnt turn up when we arrived and a taxi cost 65 euros).

Some negatives: tiny portable tv with poor picture in room, leaking aircon unit on balcony, mouldy and small shower in bathroom, cracked paint on wall in room reattached by selotape, redecoring the corridors during the days (strong smell of paint and noisy drilling etc), limited choice at breakfast buffet.

Some positives: Amazing views from seaview rooms, comfy beds and pillows, rooms cleaned daily, hotel restaurant and bar prices were not bad, close to old town bars, restaurants and shops.

Overall a nice hotel in a brilliant location but some of the rooms need to be refurbished to be in line with others in the hotel. Would recomend Hotel Rocamar for a relaxing break in a quiet area.

Room Tip: Seaview is a must.

We were a group of 8 Hen girls, booked this hotel solely based on reviews and pics of the pool/closeness to the beach.

The pool is def great, clean and has the most beautiful views of the beach/coast.

The hotel is clean and perfectly reflects what you pay (we got a great deal)

The staff however, are quite rude. The lady Manager who greeted (I say greeted but more like grunted) us was impolite and made it clear she was not happy about having a large female group at her hotel. Immediately we were asked to be quiet (we are not loud animals!) and treated almost like school children (our party is mid 20's, all professionals!)

Needless to say, it became clear the hotel does not accommodate for young people or large groups. The other guests were all much older, retired and generally 35yrs+. The hotel does not like you if you do not fit into the above criteria.

We stayed on 5th floor (away from sea view) the views were basic which was ok as thats what we paid for, however the rooms are TINY. only one person at a time can walk past the bed into the bathroom. The third bed in our room was not a bed but a pop up. Our friends stayed on floor one which was a huge room with an amazing balcony and view!

All in all, i would not recommend young people to stay here. This is a hotel catered towards an older, more reserved crowd. Stay at a diff hotel if you are a hen/stag group.

i am here now! gorgeous and modern hotel in ideal clifftop location in the old town, shops bars and restaurants a 2 minute walk away. we ended up in third floor room as we had booked a promo room, you dont get a balcony and your window looks right out on terrace and pool. was worried as first but when you go out and look you realise windows are mirrored on outside and would be very difficult to see in especially in the Sun. we relaxed a lot more after this and saw it as an advantage we could just open the window to stick our towels out in morning! the pool is small but overlooks the sea and as there are not many loungers there is a very peaceful chilled out atmosphere. rooms themselves were clean modern and spacious.breakfast was ok just your usual buffet style and certainly enough to set you up till your evening meal. plenty amazing restaurants in old town so be a waste going half board. i would definately return to the rocamar its a fab little find!

My Wife & I have just come back from a week in the rocamar, Portugal. We were given a room on level three,308 to be precise,on first entering the room we were well impressed, until we opened the curtains, there was'nt a balcony & there were sun beds right outside the window at waist height,I mean two feet away from someones bum, my thoughts were "privacy", I was back at the reception double quick & asked to be moved to another room, we were told there were'nt any more rooms available, however, ones we settled in & went for a look around, we found that our windows were mirror glass, ( we could see out but nobody could see in ) the room as it turned out, had it's advantages, the door to the pool area did'nt open till 8am. we could open our window before then, ( work it out !). (I spoke to the guy in room 314 & he had exactly the same thoughts as we did re; the room, but after the initial shock he liked it too). The view from the pool area are fantastic. The location of the hotel could'nt be better, about 150yds. from the old town. the food ? well the breakfast was o.k. bacon one day, sausage (hot dogs) the next, with eggs fried, scrambled,or boiled, tomatoes, mushrooms, & beans. or continetal breakfast. evening meals, we had two, were typical hotel buffet o.k. but.! The staff were friendly, & efficient & the hotel is very clean. there is a beautiful sauna, gym,& massage room on level one, free to residents, well worth a look.

My partner and I have just got back from a 10 day half board at the rocamar and it was wonderful, the check in was a breeze with very polite smiling staff, so straight to our room, with a good size telly with several english speaking channels and a in house radio for our convenience, the balcony gave a brilliant view ( tip get a sea view room ) and was also very private, the room was not over big but adequate, the bathroom had a bath with shower,we had clean towels and the room cleaned every day.
The pool is not the biggest but again it was a pleasant sun bathing experience as I found just reading a book very relaxing, with the other guests doing the same.
A slight negative is there is not a lot of choice for dinner, but again what they did serve was ok,in fact all in all if you just want a relaxing holiday in a very good hotel with good polite pleasant staff, and a very very good location go to the rocamar it is above a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: My tip is get a sea view room, and when you come out of the hotel from the dining area turn left and...

Just back from another week in Portugal. We stayed at the Rocamar. This is a wonderful place in a great location. I thought the staff were great couldn't have been more helpful. We were given one of the dreaded third floor rooms but after going back to reception we got move to the top floor. The third floor rooms look out onto the shared balcony, this is ok if you don't mind everyone looking into your room as they walk passed your window to go to the outside loo near your room. Apart from this the hotel is fabulous well worth staying here but not on the third floor.
