“Fantastic mini-break”
Reviewed January 1, 2011

We came in mid December 2010 to celebrate my partner's birthday. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! Nice, clean hotel rooms with good view of the water, good breakfast and super friendly and helpful staff in reception. They left a birthday cake in our room for my partner, which was a terrific surprise! They also recommended the Historical Algarve tour, which was just right for us to get a sense of the area in the short time we had. The only meal we had there was breakfast which was just fine. We had most dinners at the Cineasta Caffe, which was right next door. Again, fantastic, friendly service with excellent deals (5 Euro meal with wine included!)! Not knowing about the birthday cake from the hotel, at my request they also got my partner a cake, which they brought out with sparklers. http://www.cineastacaffe.net/ The area was not crowded at all, which made it more appealing to us. Highly recommend this hotel/ area for a winter break.

This is a good hotel in a good location. Rooms are good and are cleaned each day. The food is average, you will always find something to eat. The reception is a nice area but the bar does not open until 5pm and to get a drink or a coffee you have to go to the pool bar down numerous steps. It is not an hotel for anyone with walking problems or young kids in prams. A free bus will take you into the old town but u can walk into the old town along the beach when the tide is out. The only problem with this hotel is the mosquito problem in all the public areas and the bedrooms. The mosquitoes are everywhere and we were very badly bitten at night. The hotel would need to take some postitive action to control the mosquitoes in the form of spraying public areas and bedrooms or putting in insert zappers. If you are going take lots of mosquito sprays and bite cream with you. The swinning pool is very deep and there is no lifeguards on duty at anytime. Overall this is a good hotel and value for money.

My mum and I went for a short break in Albufeira from Friday to Monday. For both of us, it was our first visit to Portugal and I can safely say that we would both go again.

The hotel & flights were booked through a tour operator for less than £80 each. We booked our transfer seperately online through resorthoppa who were well organised, ready to meet us at the airport and we were pleased that the transfer from Faro airport to Albufeira only took about 35 minutes.

On arrival at the hotel we were allocated room A329. This is a room that faces the sea but is not directly on the sea front. We were pleased with the facilities in the room - 2 very comfy twin beds, 2 armchairs, large drawer / dressing table, fridge / freezer, lots of plug outlets, TV showing international and English channels, good sized wardrobe, AC and a nice bathroom with toilet, bath, shower, bidet. The room also had a patio and it was nice to be able to sit outside in the evenings. Take a travel kettle though, as our room didn't have a kettle and we were told they had no spare ones on asking.

The hotel was always clean! Rooms cleaned daily and towels replenished communal floors mopped. The reception staff were very helpful although I have read some of the reviews about one particular person on reception who lacked some customer service skills. We know exacty who you mean but she was fairly pleasant in any dealings we had with her (although not as nice as the other staff).

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and I don't understand what it is that some reviewers have compained about. The breakfast choices were plentiful and very nice in the main - fruit, yogurts, bread rolls, ham, cheese, pineapple, sliced bread / toast, tea, coffee, various juices, water, baked beans, boiled eggs, fried eggs or scarmbled, bacon or sausages. We were so full from our breakfasts that we never needed to eat at lunchtime.

In the evenings we ate at O Manjar which is in the Old Town. Fab restaurant, huge portions, great food and great service. We also ate at Cineasta which is just outside the hotel, by the roundabout - another great meal and excellent service.

The hotel is outside of the Old Town but we never paid more than €4 / €5 in a taxi to go anywhere. The hotel reception will call a taxi for you at a charge of 50c.

All in all we had a great time in Albufeira and would happily stay at the Auramar again!

My wife and I stayed half board at the Auramar 17th-24th December it rained very heavily every single day, the reception and bar staff were very friendly and helpful, but, we were not pleased with the restaurant waiters. As a chef myself, I was not at all impressed with the food on offer. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a bed and breakfast only as the breakfast was reasonable. the bigggest problem we had was the resident mosqito population as they seemed to enjoy the food on offer- the guests!!!
one nice surprise was that the hotel left me a birthday cake in our room on my birthday, it was very good.

Clean, adequate, value for money. My break was out of season late December, there were a few older people getting away from the UK winter. Had a lovely room with front views. The indoor pool was warm no probs. The bus into town was available pity had to wait 4 hrs plus for return to hotel, but never mind. 2 english channels on tv get over it? There's roughly 2 ch.s on tv for each different language. are you there for the tv? Overall staff were grand, Had a cheap out of season break for £170.00. Views location were very good, My last day was abit marred decided to have dinner at the restaurant on site, big mistake 15 eruros! Food was rubbish, but you learn. Just use the place as a location and you'd be fine.

Read all the reviews and was a liitle worried about what was said. Still got three nights with flights for £69!. On arrival the reception was efficient and we were shown to our room. Wow! what a surprise. A very large room with a two balconies, one looking over the hotel gardens and swimming pool the other with a view of the Atlantic. Had a kitchen with microwave, fridge, toaster and all the cooking utensils you would need. Never used them as we eat out but will bear in mind for a future stay. Maid service every day. Bathroom good and clean. We were on a B&B basis, so tried breakfast the first day at the hotel. Perfectly ok, and with the cooked buffet breakfast we also had ham and cheese rolls which were good. I think the moans about the food are from people with very high expectations. A full english breakfast like an english cafe would make is only £3-4 at one of many places near to the hotel. Your on holiday, treat yourself. In the same respect why go full board when there a many local restaurants serving a variety of food ie steaks, fish, etc, etc, at reasonable prices. A taxi to various parts of Albufeira will only cost £2-3. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who is still young at heart (I'm 55 going on 30!) who wants to explore the local towns and meet the very friendly locals.
If you want perfection and need to be waited on hand and foot, book into a Hilton type hotel and pay 10 times plus more for your stay where you can be closeted in luxury blissfully unaware of what the real Albufeira has to offer.

We stayed at Auramar Beach Resort for one week on B&B basis and had a wonderful holiday. The rooms were clean and fresh towels everyday. On request we were provided with a kettle, pots and pans as we cooked some dinners in our room. As it was my birthday a surprise birthday cake from the hotel made it that much more special. They also provide you with a picnic (sandwiches, fruits & drinks) if you are leaving early to catch your flight. Staff were helpful and breakfast was adequate. Free shuttle to the old town was handy. Overall a good value holiday for what you pay. I will definitely go again.
