stayed here for xmas last year and had a great time .food gets very samey every 2 days but go all inclusive and get a good deal and you wont go wrong.we got a deal for 7 days over xmas for 295 pound all inclusive and well worth it. ideal location for beach ,old town 20 mins walk, the strip 10 mins walk other direction.drinks could have been stronger ,sometimes very weak.order a vodka on its own and then get a mixer and make yourown ,im sure you will find its stronger .would go back as it is an ideal place location wise.

  • Liked — location was ideal for all your needs
  • Disliked — food was same every other day,and watered down drinks sometimes

When we booked the hotel (as a much needed last minute cheap holiday) I then read the reviews about it and my heart sank. However on arriving to the hotel I was really pleasantly surprised! The reception staff were friendly and spoke very good english, our room was large, clean with a great sea view (we stayed in A block on the top floor). There was a loud engine type noises on the first night, but we never heard them again after that.

The breakfasts were fine (we were b&b), but were told by other guests that were all inclusive that the food wasn't great and neither was the choice. The outdoor pool, again told by other guests, was apprently freezing so we firmly stuck to the indoor pool that was lovely and warm! The evening entertainment did seem to be a cheese fest, but the older folk seemed to enjoy it night after night!

The main town bit is 5 minutes walk away with loads of bars and restaurants, so you won't be stuck for choice. There is an Australian themed restaurant a little walk away, but the food there is amazing! There is a free bus going to the old town three times a day just outside of the hotel reception.

The decor is a bit awful, but the hotel is so clean you can't complain about that. I also did hear about a few complaints from other guests, but they did all seem to be sorted in the end.

Yeah the hotel is dated, the entertainment cheesy and Germans and old people all over the place, but for a cheap week away holiday it was perfect for us, and would even think about going again if needed another cheap one!

  • Liked — Location, the views, friendly staff and how clean it was
  • Disliked — The steps that are everywhere!

have just returned from a weeks stay, and after having read a few reviews was a little bit concerned, upon arrival we were allocated a room in the dreaded "d" block , the room itself was ok but the view from the balcony was awful, just a huge tree to look at, we then went down to complain and were told we could be moved in 2 days time, so we were happy with that and they did keep to their word, our new room in "a" block was just as clean but the view was superb, you could sit on the balcony and just look at the ocean. the reception staff were very helpful, also room cleaning was excellent, our only critism of staff was the barman in hotel who was very rude in his manner of service, maybe if we went all inclusive he might have treated us better !! we stayed b&b which suited us, must say i was very pleased with the selection of food for breakfast. overall a very nice stay, would def. return to hotel, location is great, beach is superb, plenty of places to eat and drink, though you have to be prepared to do some walking which came as a shock to my partner, she's never walked so much in her life !!

  • Liked — view from balcony
  • Disliked — twin beds !!

My husband and I have visited the Auramar for the last 8 years. We spent Christmas 2006 there. Unfortunatley the Hotel has gone down as each year goes on. The location and views brings us back each year but this year will be our last. The room was small and had a large settee at the end of the twin beds which only left a small gap where you had to walk sideways to get pass . We asked for it to be removed but it was refused. The room had an ajoining door whcih was locked but we where able to hear everything going on in the next room not too good as neighbours had tv on most of the day and night. This year we was only b&b as the previous we where ai and we only ate breakfast every other day as the so called scrambled egg was disgusting and who wants cheese on toast or chips or fried apple for breakfast. Thje drinks were very expensive and although we drank local gin and tonics we where charged for gordons. We enjoyed the great new Cineasta Restaurant across the road the food was excellent and is well worth a visit also Johnny Hoopers off the Strip a great night out. We love Portugal and will be back next year but notg to the Auramar.

Shaz Kaz
I had a really chilled out week here with my husband the views beaches and coves were spectacular so dont sit at the pool all week its such a waste. couldnt find the gym so ran on the beach and swam before brekkie much nicer! Pool was brill deep and refreshing
Room was nice cleaned everyday we did have a sea view but there was a tree blocking half of it, yes could do with a bit of updating but it was fine for us.
The reception staff were very helpful and friendly, we only went to the bar twice in the hotel we were B&B the first time the waiter with the dark hair and was short (short man syndrome) was extremly rude to a Dutch guest, we ordered our drinks and he chose to ignore us, this happened on the second occasion also so we never went back.
Walk to the old town along rhe beach but watch the tides on the way back, it is so romantic.
Go to the strip in the other direction for Matts bar and wild and co for a crazy night of music drink and fun restaurants everywhere Palencette restaurant is so lovley Frogs pizzas a must the holiday was fab!!!!!
Need to sort the little man out though no people skills.

The hotel has a great location, you can walk straight down to the beach. The food was pretty good, we're going again and are opting for b and b this time as we fancy trying some different restaurants. Its about a 20 minute walk along the beach to the old town. Its quite dated and the reception area was very smokey. the room was nice and we had nice sea views, all in all a very relaxing holiday.

  • Liked — the fact its by the beach
  • Disliked — the smokey reception

After reading some of the negative reviews about this hotel I was a little apprehensive about what we would find when we got there. However, we had booked the hotel as a late deal and got an excellent price of £150 for the week for a twin room. Even though we had only booked for bed and breakfast the room came with basic cooking facilities and a sink. Even though there was only one saucepan and little cutlery, this allowed us to cook simple meals and save a bit of money.

The room itself was lovely. We had a brilliant view over the sea and a balony with two chairs and a table. There was a TV with 5 English channels and the bathroom was spotless (although the bath took forever to fill).

The staff were very friendly and helpful, even the one with short black hair :D. We did witness one woman complaining very loudly about not being given the specific room she had booked and they could have dealt with that a little better than than it was (no money back and no room change due to the hotel being full).

The location was great. The hotel is right next to the sea. However, there is a rather precarious though very beautiful walk along the clifftop to get to it. I wouldn't recommend it for older people or people with young children. There are probably other ways to get to the beach.

Overall, a great experience and I would happily stay here again.

  • Disliked — The cooking facilities were very basic but we shouldn't have had them anyway :)
