“Alright for the price”

To put everyone in the picture we managed to get a really good deal on this holiday hence I'm a bit more lenient. We went as a group of 6 compromising of 3 couples, the rooms were basic but practical but they served as an ideal bed and place to leave stuff around.. A few occasions where we had to request towels from the maids because they didn't leave any but that's nit picking. Staff were all friendly and helpful except for bar staff.. Found them to be rude and short. The entertainment was... Well interesting but in a roundabout fashion a laugh.

Our main concern which has marked it down for us is that my partner, her mother and brother have all come down from a sickness bug.. Normally we would just put it down to nothing but reading a few of the other reviews I felt it needed to be highlighted.
Unsure on causes but food whilst there was a selection there were occasions when it was cold and times when bits were over cooked.

To summarise despite all being ill we have had a great time there and would consider going again if we don't get ill again, and finally we wish to mention one of the waiters, Mishel, who provided an exceptional service by even having our drinks ready for us each night prior to us sitting down... He was duly tipped :)

The hotel overlooks the Atlantic Ocean which in the month of February can have a chilling effect on those seeking the sun. Located in the district of Oura the complex is within walking distance of the main strip made up almost entirely of bars and restaurants. Albufeira old town can be accessed by the main road 30 minute walk or via the beach, 20 minutes. A free shuttle bus operates to and from the hotel at 1000/1200/1600hrs daily. Taxis are also not far away.
The hotel itself is large and made up of blocks of rooms A,B,C,D connected to reception by all- weather corridors like arms of an octopus. The rooms are clean, large and spacious . Balcony views vary from spectacular sea views to those looking at the back of another block. Built in the 70’s this is reflected in the structure which reminded me of something like Russian or eastern block housing. The central part of the complex contains the restaurant / bars / pool snack bar and overlooks a huge outdoor pool and the sea. The food was to good standard bearing in mind that most guests were AI. For us on half board we found drinks prices very reasonable. You will always find something to eat. Reception area has free wi fi .A charge is made for kettles .and the safe required both lock and key. An indoor pool, a hotel shop and outdoor tennis court are also within the complex.
Overall the hotel met its 3 star rating .Perhaps a little out of the way .The large hotel car park usually full reflected the number of guests with their own transport. Good beach location provided the weather is kind - unfortunately we had a horrendous week at the end of February. If your looking for a shopping then the Modelo Shopping centre is located up on the main dual carriageway to Albufeira at the roundabout of the “Watches”
As I said the food was acceptable, however I did experience a 24hour bout of vomiting and diarrhoea which I can only attribute to something I ate. I understand some of the other guests experienced a similar occurrance. This may have been an isolated incident but may be something the hotel should examine.Judging by the numbers using the restaurant, the hotel was full - a good sign but lapses of kitchen hygeine could be detrimental .One other thing - the hotel is built on a hillside and has many steps which may be unsuitable for those with walking difficulties.

Room Tip: Blocks B&D have more sea views.

I too wonder what people expect from a 3 star hotel. This was my third visit to the Auramar and Ive already booked again for November, but it was definitely not the best holiday I've ever had, this was not the fault of the hotel, but the weather was the worst I have ever experienced in the Algarve, also I managed to strain a tendon in my foot, so it was really painful walking up and down the steps, this is definitely not the place for the unfit!

About the third day there I was violently sick and suffered with diarrhoea for a couple of days, whether this was due to something I had ate in the Hotel I do not know. I also think that the standard of the food has dropped there was not as much choice as usual.
The room cleaning was very basic, some days the cleaner was in the room about 5 minutes, all she seemed to do was make the bed change the towels and put toilet rolls in they do seem to be overworked and some days the rooms were not serviced until late afternoon
Maybe the Auramar should start charging more and raise their standards.

Iam keeping my fingers crossed for my next holiday, but there is nothing you can do about the weather, but that is the main reason that I go abroad in the winter. I still think this is a good hotel , maybe it is a bit dated, but if you want 5 star you have to pay 5 star prices.

Room Tip: I was on 3rd floor A block but I think D block has better rooms

Arrived late friday evening, restaurant still open so we were able to have dinner. Food seemed quite nice, not hot though. Rooms were acceptable, nice hot shower, clean bedding and extra blankets if needed. The lifts are tiny, we went as 3 couples and had to split up to use lifts. in fact only one person with luggage at a time, tough if you are claustrophic. Lovely views across the sea from block A providing you are on 4th or 5th floor. Plenty of hanging and cupboard space. By monday my husband had come down with a bout of sickness and diarrhea, violently ill and lasted 24 hours. On Tuesday my son-in-law was struck by the same sickness, and on Wednesday myself and my daughter had it. We were told by reception that we had brought it with us.? However she was more than willing to hand out some generic imodium from a container behind the front desk. (One of the waitresses advised us to ask at reception for tablets when we enquired if she knew where the nearest chemist was - almost as if this was a routine occurrence .) This cut our holiday short for about 3 days, as we didn't really have the energy to do much after that. Still not sure if it was the food, a bug, airborne or whatever but we were all fine before we arrived at the hotel so certainly didn't bring it with us.
Just one more thing to mention. do not book for excursions/trips out at the hotel reception, Walk up the road to "the ticket shop" and book from there. You will save yourself over 50%.
eg. ticket to gypsy market was 14 euros from reception, and 5.60 euros from ticket shop!

Room Tip: Book top floor, block A had a good view although we had read recommendations to book block D, when w...

we went here fore a week came back on the 5/3/2013 .the rooms are very poor the fridges do not work or the electric bad lighting in the evening coming back at night lights are turned off.Entertament a Old mAN playing what i call a organ grinder from 21.00/23.00 that its after that time you are not allowed any more drinks or given the choice to pay for anymore .The drink is 1 per person in a plastic cup and the smallest plastic cup. The food was the nasty thing i have ever tried or tasted after 1 day we eat out very low and poor not even warm .there are lots of bars in the hotel in the day but only 1 is open and thats a track down the hill to get so if you have walking problens you have no chance at all .Same as for food breakfast is upstairs lunch is again down the hill which is again not good for the older people and dinner up stairs you do not get a choice of where you want to eat .The times state after 11pm you can go to the snack bar to get food theres no snack bar .The pillows in room are not pillows but are cusions .The staff are very good thats all i can say but not all .If you want a cab at night you have to pay the reception to call one for you the internet is not free here as they state. You do not get any free water or mini bar as it states either . The lift on site is so small if your larger in size you have no chance .DISABLED people do not come here as there is no way you can get around or to the food area

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from February 24th. Our room was clean & the all-inclusive deal was good value for the £187 (including flights) we paid. A big plus point is the situation of this hotel. It is right on the beach & we had spectacular views from our room (4th floor) The hotel is a bit dated & all the sunbeds could do with being replaced. Overall though it is very good value for the money.

Room Tip: A423 has dual aspect views.

We spent a lovely weekend here and had a fantastic time. The staff were very friendly and the food was nice. The entertainment was good with a fabulous karaoke singer on the last night. The walk along the beach to the Old town was lovely. And the Strip is about 10 minutes away and lovely to buy gifts from. The hotel is very big but the staff made an effort to make you feel welcomed.
