“suprisingly good”
Reviewed June 18, 2011

After looking at the review on the hotel prior to me going to the Auramar i was to say the least a little anxious but upon arrival i was shocked at how wrong the negative reviews actually were. We all had a fantastic time, so much to do in the hotel alone. The pool was lovely, the rooms were clean, reception staff were caring and considerate especially when i ended up in hospital after going on rocket ride (anyone with back conditions PLEASE AVOID) i now have a fractured spine and pelvis.
the only things i didnt like the hotel for was the lack of imagination on the food side of things. also this hotel should be a no go zone for anyone who is disabled there are too many stairs.
overall a great holiday had by all of us and i am very looking forward to going again someday.

I have to say that I never had any problems with any of the staff on reception. We were allocated 2 rooms on different floors on arrival and I explained that we needed 2 on the same floor we and were given these without any problems. My parents had a room with 3 beds in it and had lovely views from both balconies. My room was 2 doors down with lovely sea views. I agree the cafe for all inclusive looked like a school canteen but we just made the best of it. Although the food wasn't great we always managed to find something to eat. My main problem was that my parents both have walking difficulties and I didn't realise there were so many steps or that to get for a drink or meal you had to negotiate lots of steps. Our Airtours rep was fantastic and asked if they could open one of the other bars but I'm afraid the request fell on deaf ears. My parents didn't really get the benefit of all inclusive as it was too much for them to use the steps so I borrowed a kettle from reception and bought tea, milk, bottled water and biscuits so that they could at least have some tea when I wasn't there to get them drinks. I don't know if it's because we were there earlier in the season but we never had to drink out of plastic cups. The hotel is well situated at the beach (accessed via stairs) and you can walk to the old town along the beach and is located within walking distance of the strip, although I preferred the old town myself. There were a lot of golfers and 2 hen parties staying at the hotel the week I was there but there weren't any problems. The maid cleaned our rooms every day and we had clean towels and sheets when required. It's a lovely hotel with great views but definately not for people with walking difficulties or heart conditions. Sorry it took so long to send this review but I'm not long back from a cruise which I booked up when in Portugal!

We decided last minute to book this holiday all inclusive and what a good decision we made. The hotel itself was clean and very plesant apart from the strange disinfectant smell in the reception/bar area. The pool area and poolside restaurant was fab- the all incusive deal was exceptional. The food was great with a good choice every day and dinner on an evening was always nicely presented and replenished, even if you went down to dinner late as we usually did.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the main bars and shops and you can walk along the beach to the old village which again has many shops and bars.
Our room was clean and functional and as we had a corner bedroom we had an enormous balcony which over-looked the pool and the sea.
We have already booked to return next March which is unusual for us as we like to try different places.

My boyfriend and I (gay couple) stayed here last week. We went half-board and I am glad that we did. The room was nice enough and was cleaned it thoroughly every day. It had a decent sized balcony and a good sea view. There is a well stocked shop in the hotel which is certainly helpful. Staff on reception aren't bad although they don't really go out of their way to be helpful. I would like to crush once and for all the ugly rumour that the reception smells of sweaty feet; more accurately it smells of stale armpits mixed with regurgitated food which has been left out in the sun all day - lovely. Meals were tolerable but nothing special - 'grey soup' anyone? I am certainly glad that we didn't go all inclusive as these guests seemed to have all of their drinks served in half-pint plastic glasses and had to eat their lunch in a Butlins-style dining room next to the pool. The pool is quite big when not being invaded by boorish stag parties. There is also a smaller pool for the all-inclusive guests and a heated indoor pool - which is ok but small. We played tennis at 10E an hour - free if you are all inclusive. There are a number of silly curfews - no swimming or table tennis after 6pm, no drinks in the indoor bar until after 5pm - which closes promptly at midnight. There seemed to be two bars which were all-inclusive only - which was irritating. Internet is available - but only 2 computers at 1E per 10 minutes. WiFi is available also. The beach is only a 5 minute walk away and there also a gate near the pool - which closes at 7pm which leads to a walk along some rocks down to a little cove. We didn't partake of the entertainment but from what I could gather it consisted of some bloke playing a keyboard every night and some silliness from the Animation Team - CATS, bingo, Tina Turner, parrot show and goodness knows what else. Instead, its a good idea to visit the Old Town at some point - a few museums, art gallery, church and loads of shops, bars and restaurants - try the Paella. The strip is what you would expect in a touristy resort - noisy, brash and bright. Rick's Bar is good for a quiet drink and a game of pool. Lots of blokes selling 'Charlie' and 'Hash' - best avoided. Try some legal hights at the 'Happy Head' shop in the Old Town instead. Just next to the hotel is a cafe-bar which serves cheap drinks (cheaper than the hotel) and light meals. I'd advise you to go there rather than to spend any evenings in the hotel. Lastly, there are plenty of trips available - including Lisbon, Gibratlar and Seville as well as local towns and the usual jeep safari, swim with dolphins and catamaran trips. For water parks, there is the well established Slide and Splash which we didn't go to but seems popular, and the very new Aquashow - which we did go to. Aquashow is okay but there are only 3 big rides - of which only 2 were functioning. The water park side of it is decent but altogether the park seemed to be lacking something. The guests seemed to be almost entirely English and German - a high proportion were a bit rough and rather overweight - so if people watching is your thing you'll have a ball. Anyhow - not a bad holiday and a reasonable hotel - only stay for a week though as they is plenty long enough.

if you want a holiday where you get promised a sea view, and not be given one, awful repeptitive food, last nights leftovers for breakfast, drunken yobs throwing heavy beer cans at the local cats, rude reception staff that will not refund you your £70 pound excursion payment due to illness,(even though it states you CAN cancel 24 hours before!), all inclusive people being treated like scrotes (drinks in plastic cups), entertainment is same person different outfit every night, the maid stealing your belongings, then the AURAMAR is for you!!!

awful hotel, will not return to portugal as its boring with nothing to do but walk down a dirty strip full of drug dealers! and beggars, did not feel safe going out (not good when you are only 25 years old and want a night out!) although the beach is beautiful :)

room thoroughly cleaned every day. spotless. staff we found to be very courteous and accomodating, maybe because we took the time to learn a few portugese phrases like hello, how are you, good morning, thank you. location good as it was close to the old town by beach walk and close to the strip by road but set in a quiet area. go left across the rocks when you go through the gate to the beach to find a beautiful wee cove for swimming., food was fine, it wasn't a gourmet dining experience, but then..we didn't expect a gourmet menu. entertainment!!!!! hmmmm. playing bingo... hilarious. CATS...great. performing parrots and reptile display. no thank you. tina turner tribute.... fantastic.... yes it is a guy and yes he is miming.....would i recommend this holiday???it depends on what you're looking for. if you are looking to immerse yourself in portugese culture and not hear any english or german stay well away from the whole of albefuira. if you're looking for a full cooked breakfast, football on tap, stags and hens in top form and the glittering allure of the strip with it's clubs, pubs and eateries then get yourself the hell over there. ps the hotel has a few wild cats in residence who look like they could do with a good feed. some people feed them, some people don't

Room Tip: ask for a room on 2nd floor or higher
