As you would all expect...... before our holiday our family was very excited. We had waited along time for the two weeks we would be spending in Portugal. Arriving at Faro airport we were all very excited about coming to stay in this hotel. First impressions... the hotel looked very nice and quite "posh" until we spoke to the reception staff who were very ignorant, and had no time for us from the onfset. The apartment was spacious and clean but very basic , which, we did'nt mind because "generally" we only shower and sleep there.
What shocked us the most was the restaurant, we were all - inclusive and the food was diabolical!!! and I mean that. The breakfast was the best meal offered which was of a two star rating, but, the lunch and dinner was something I have never seen before. We were offered either one fish option and one meat option ( thats all ) which looked very dry and either chips or rice, a salad bar, and some soup ( one type !) and a dessert. The food was generally cold and you had to join a queue with the many of portuguese pensioners who were on holiday here. There was very little amount of food offered which caused the other guests to push and squabble for their portion!! My children were pushed out of the way when trying to put food on their plate!!!!! I could'nt believe what was happening.
After talking to the reception staff, it was explained that this hotel was used for the free Portugese pensioners holiday which they recieve from the government every year. Majority were very rude and made our pensioners look like saints.
We spoke to the manager who at first seemed to take on board our disappointment but, after speaking to him and discussing things explained to me that "you are in Portugal, You eat Portugese food! " simple as that.
We decided after the third day to down grade to bed and breakfast through our travel broker who was very supportive and fast, thank goodness.
The entertainment was for adults, not children, they played outside the bar area with the OTHERS, what else could they do ...... and when it was Portuguese night, you were ousted out and told it was only for the Portuguese guests!!!! this offended a lot of people too!!!
BUT, the local bars were were very good and there are some great restaurants and Tapas bars to visit.
The beaches were amazing and the weather was fantastic for this time of the year.
We made a lot of English friends who were in their minority for the size of the hotel and met a local English family who were very hospitable.
All in all We would never go to this hotel again and Portugal is beautiful And I stress we are not a FUSSY FAMILY !!!!
