I went here last year with my Family and I defenitely would go back!

Arriving at the hotel -

It's an hours journey from the airport to the Hotel, but you get to see Portugal and it's lovely scenery. It was quite warm when we arrived at the hotel (But of course your in Portugal, so it's not going to be freezing!) When we got in to reception we checked in, they said it would take a while for our room to be ready, but we were fine with that. Reception was nice and cool, very spacious, seats with tables, T.V and magazines. Beside the reception desk there was brochures for waterparks, themeparks and good places to visit. The reception does not accept cards, only cash. Restaurant in reception, entertainment room, nice clean toliets and a bar (Selling soft drinks, alchahol, ice lollies, sweets, crisps and slush puppies for the kids!) While we were waiting, the staff let us keep our luggage in a luggage room.

Pools -

Impressed by the pools, 5 to choose from. The busiest one is the one near reception. Only one or two pools sutible for small children. Good sized pools. Pool bars at some pools (Offer good drinks, ice lollies, ice cream and crisps!) Music plays sometimes througout the day at the main pool near the reception, but it makes it feel more holiday like. The pool I was at didn't have a pool bar, but it did have a drinks machine. The coke ran out after a while (Thanks to me!). I would give the pool 4 1/2 stars as some pools get quite busy.
Tip: You may need to get up early for sun beds, but that doesn't really matter because there is quite a few available.

Town - Small drive into townm taxi drivers can drive fast sometimes, a bit of a wait for a taxi. There's the strip which is very lively but it is very fun there, you can eat at nice restaurants, there is some kiddy rides sometimes. But there are stray dogs running about sometimes. Old town is nice, restaurants are nice and the beach has people making lovely sand sculptures.

Staff - They were good and helpful, very friendly!

Food -

We were self catering so we boughtour food from the supermarkets. It was tasty, some English food. Bread was nice that is in the hotel supermarket and cereal is just the same as the English kind.

Apartments - They 're just your basic apartments. Good T.V, great kitchen, big double bed in a seperate room, we had two balcony's which were very big, one offered a sunbed. The main balcony had a table with four seats, beautiful view looking over the sea. Some noise at nights but it's easy to get asleep. Stairs up to our apartment, can be tiring if your coming back from a walk or you're tired but it depends where you are in the hotel grounds. Can be hard to get asleep as it is a warm country. Sofa bed which folds out to be a double bed. Floor can get dirty but maid sorts that out.

Overall, it's a brillaint hotel and I would reccomend it for Families, couples and solo's!

My rating : ****

Thanks

Room Tip: Book a room over the sea, it's worth it!

This is a gem of an apartment complex which children will love for the numerous pools (one enormous one), slides, play areas and general layout. It's all spotless, clean pools, clean water, tidy surroundings. We had bed and breakfast included which was plentiful, and stayed in a one bedroomed spacious and well equipped apartment (406) with sea view, albeit the sea is some 500 metres away. Complex had evening entertainment and restaurants on site for lunches and dinner if you don't want to venture out, but with so much good food choice in and around the area, we eat out every night and mainly in Albufeira some 2.5 miles to the west. Because it attracts families the complex was quiet after about 11pm. Our only criticism of the room was the bed quality and comfort, they are all twin beds with hard mattresses, so if that's your bag, it's OK but they do provide softer covers to help. Oh and I'm afraid it's 'get your sunbeds sorted early' if you want to be by the pool, in spite of hotel warnings not to, everyone had towels on sunbeds by 10am.

Walk to the nearest sandy and Blue Flag beach was a good ten minutes, either through the complex or along the main road and left. The kids loved the place which helped satisfy the parents, we would return.

Room Tip: Stay in Alfagar II apartment block (the newest development) and for the best sea views seek rooms 40...

Lovely swimming pools, Warm welcoming.
Food wasn't great in the Village Bar but the food in the Pool Bar was really tasty...
We got a shuttle bus into Albufeira Oldtown for 80c per person.
You could also book places (e.g Zoomarine) from the reception and it includes transport. We were self-catering but ate out most of the time. We were able to get a taxi to Montechero Strip.

If you have kids, this would be ideal!

Room Tip: If you like to relax, sea-view would be ideal, I would recommend going Self-Catering

Stayed for 2 weeks from 4th July this year. Check in time is 4 o clock, we arrived at 11 that morning and they had our apartment within an hour, which was really helpful as we had 3 small children with us. Apartments themselves are extremely spacious, as a family of 5 we were advised to book a 1 bed, was more than enough room, with a really lovely sized terrace also. Apartments are very well equipped and exceptionally clean, cleaners came everyday and changed bed linen every second day. There is a pool bar, which is fine for lunch, nice bar in main hotel and a really nice and good value restaurant, they had different themes every night. Would certainly return. Just a warning to those who like to be at the centre of things, this place is a good 20 minute to half an hour walk to a large supermarket and also from the main strip in Albufeira. That suited us with such small children but it might not be for everybody. Other slight negatives are if you want a kids club they don't have one and access to the beach is hazardous, a steep climb down lots of steps, not accessible at all for small children. Otherwise would highly recommend.

We arrived at the airport two and a half hours early so there would be plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast. ON arrival, check in was listed to be in Terminal 2 of Birmingham airport but the queue started halfway up the slope into terminal 1. There were 9 check in desks allocated for Thomson Airways flights; 8 flights to be checked in and just 3 desks open [with occasionally a 4th desk]. After we had been queueing for 1 hour airport security guards started to find people at the back of the queue to be pulled to the front because otherwise they would miss their flight. The security guard we talked to said that this happened every Sunday because ServisAIr never put on enough staff. He also said that frequently people miss their flights because the service is so bad. When we got to check in the clerk told us that they apologised for the unusually long queue [sorry, we believed the person who had told us it was normal]. We queues for 2 hours - so we had to run to the boarding gate [fortunately secity checking as quick], with no breakfast: Thank you Thomson.

As you can imagine this was not a good start to the day.

Fortunately, when we finally got to the hotel it was very nice. An extremely good room with plenty of space and a good sized balcony; a very large pool. Good poolsie facilities. The resort was a little remote from restaurants: About a 15 minute walk because there were so few local taxis.

Room Tip: All rooms were good.

Accommodation is very good, have everything you need but beds very hard. Staff very nice particularly young man at reception and barman in red bar. Checkin very quick. Pool area lovely, easiest place ever to get sunbeds. Impeccably clean and cleaning staff very good.
Unfortunately there were no activities during the day and our 14year old was very disappointed as other 4star properties we have stayed in always have pool games. There was little or no evening entertainment which made the place very quiet and boring at night. Also we had never encountered the 50cent charge for a taxi before!! Bit of a rip off.
We would recommend Costa Rica restaurant across from Freddie's on the strip, the restaurant next to it has amazing fish catalpana and the lovely Chinese at beginning of strip with smiling man!! Also went to loule market which was lovely.

Room Tip: There is no height adjustable bar for shower head in ground floor bathrooms making showering more di...

We have just returned from a week in Sunny Portugal with our 3 year old little girl!

Great hotel about 45 mins from the airport on a package holiday transfer, we travelled with Thomsons. The hotel is well equipped for a self catering holiday, everything you need in the rooms and they were totally spotless! Great that you have sun loungers on your large balcony too!

Unfortunately the hotel food wasn't that good. Buffet is expensive for what you get and not a huge choice of foods! Although it does taste nice!

Buganvillia bar which serves food is okay, staff are very busy so it can take a while to be served, not bad selection but can't say we enjoyed the food that much!

The Rosiera is the A la Carte restaurant, small menu, food okay but really lovely friendly staff!

The hotel has great pools with slides for the kids and the only thing that could make these better is some heat! They are freezing, I know it's 30 odd degrees but seriously it's so cold!

The entertainment is poor, the had two nights of kids entertainment, Domingos and parrot show which were excellent but given the fact the hotel is predominantly filled with children entertainment every night would be good for them! Disappointed that Thomsons took the kids club away, especially considering I booked the holiday for this and they didnt inform us!!

All in all an excellent holiday! Defo give it a try!! :)
