“Lovely Hotel, but No Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stayed here for 2 weeks beginning on the 25 of July (2 adults and 2 teenage kids).
From the outside on arrival the place looks lovely and in a great location with nice gardens. Once inside we were not disappointed either. It is modern and extremely clean.
Our room was on the 1st floor (108). After making our way to the room (no offer of help with bags, or to be taken their) we were again pleasantly surprised by the size of the it. The rooms are large and well laid out.
The bad things about the rooms were -
1. The beds, we all found uncomfortable.
2. We went Self Catering and had planned on making good use of the Kitchen, however the Kitchen consists of a Hob (No Oven or Grill), a small Microwave, a Fridge, a Hob heated Kettle!!, one small Pot and one small Frying Pan with some utensils.
This was really disappointing as trying to cook for 4 grown people was going to difficult!!
So we didn't even try.
The swimming pool was a decent size, not very deep but nice and clean. The Sun Loungers are as you have to expect wherever you go on holiday! If your not up and down early with your towels then forget it.
You get the sun all day, but you do have to move your loungers a bit to stay with it. The staff didn't seem to mind at all when you put the Loungers up on the grass, which was great. The pool side bar was good and the young girl who served at it most of the time was quite shy but very nice.
I wouldn't recommend drinking inside the Hotel at all. We did on one occasion and it was awful. The Lager was off, glasses not clean, too expensive and no atmosphere what so ever. It wasn't made better by the staff - ever!! They never had any-time for anyone it seemed, and didn't really make you feel welcome or get to know you, which was a real shame. The only 2 that were okay was the young girl at the pool bar and the fella that does the reception who was welcoming and informative. Everyone else just looked straight through you.
The cleaners were spot on, and came in every day to clean, make the beds and give you fresh towels if needed.
We were a bit worried about a nightclub being almost directly across the road from the Hotel (Kiss) but needn't have been as we very rarely heard anything from it during the night.
There is small grocers shop just two minutes up the road which is cheap enough for your water or a wee carry-out :) two minutes down the road there is a great wee pizza place for take away. Don't be put off by the Neon Sign outside for the Strippers Club!!
The main Strip is only a 10 minute walk away and is full of Restaurants, Bars and Clubs. It gets very busy and noisy after 10pm - Lots of party animals :)
The Old Town if you walk is about 30 mins or a Taxi is usually 4-5 Euros. It's really nice in the Old Town, but very busy. The shops and stalls are better here than in the Strip, but they are also a bit more expensive, I thought.
I would recommend staying here for the location and peacefulness - If you like to have some entertainment where your staying, then this wouldn't be for you!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the Pool side are definitely more appealing.

Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 boys aged 6 and 9) were staying in this hotel for 10 nights in July.
We were very impressed by the level of service. On the arrival we were escorted to our apartment which wasn't facing the pool/garden.I pointed this out straight away and asked for the room on the other side.I was told it's not possible as every room on the other side is occupied. Then I said it's not right because I have paid extra money when booking to get the room in the pool/garden side. After 10 minutes we were escorted to another apt with an apology. We got the apt on the 4th floor corner(no 10).It has 2 balconies and a MASSIVE bedroom.I am not joking-you could easily fit in 3 double beds and would still have room for coffee table.
Receptionists were very professional and full of advices where to eat, which beach to go to or where to find a bigger supermarket.
Some notes to management though-if you have a policy of 'no booking sun lounger with towels' then you should enforce it.I used to go to swimming pool with my kids every morning at 9.00 and there was not a single person in the pool yet we never had a free sun lounger as they all were covered with somebody's towel.Shame.
Also please please be careful with dishes. My husband accidentally broke a salad bowl and we had to pay €60 to replace it(was not replaced while we were there). This is insane as the bowl was very basic-the one you can get for €10 in any bigger supermarket.

Having read all the previous reviews on TripAdvisor we knew what to expect. Yes there was no atmosphere in the evening but that didn't bother us at all. The atmosphere in the Old Town and on the Strip was much livelier particularly the Strip. We had a room at the back and occasionally heard dogs barking but didn't ever stop us sleeping. Apartments were very spacious and equipped well enough for making our own breakfast and lunch. Evenings we ate out in the local restaurants. We didn't have a problem getting sunbeds most of the time. One morning I went down about 9.15 and could have chosen any spot by the pool and by 11 there were still loads free!! The pool bar is very expensive for drinks and snacks but ice creams are the same price as local shops. We didn't walk to the Old Town but used the tourist train. The nearest stop was 10-15 minute walk away. The closest beach was about a 10 minute walk once we found the little path across the roundabout. We would definitely stay at this hotel again but wish it was a bit closer to the Old Town which was much nicer than the Strip.

We were booked into this hotel from 8-20th august on a half-board basis . When we arrived the hotel looked lovely, and we thought we had made a good choice!! Next morning we discovered on looking over our balcony that every sunbed had a towel on it....and this was 8am!!! There was a group of about 9 people who did this every morning with a row of sunbeds and not one member of staff seemed to bother. So if you wanted a sunbed you had to be up at the crack of dawn, and that is not a relaxing holiday. As I said earlier ,we booked on a half board basis and that was a big mistake....the food was awful!!. You had two choice a fish dish or a meat dish, and if you didn't like boiled rice then it was chips with everything, not once did we get potatoes or pasta.I think the price we paid for this quality of food was totally unacceptable. The restaurant was almost empty every night with a max of five tables occupied, we could have had a meal in the lovely restaurants in the resort every evening for less than we paid for the food in the hotel. Breakfast was ok ,nothing special.Even the drinks at the bar were very expensive,so the place was deserted most nights in fact the hotel has no atmosphere and is deserted most nights as there is absolutely nothing for guests apart from free Wi-Fi and that is only in the foyer. We had to return early due to my husband being unwell and I must say the reception staff were very helpful, and we were grateful for that. I intended to speak to the manager, but ,as we had to return home early ,I didn't get the chance.I have sent an email to the hotel with my complaints ,but, alas,I have heard nothing and that is over a week ago.

Just returned from a lovely 2 week stay at these apartments and would happily go back. The location of these apartments are ideal for a bit of everything. As mentioned on here, you are only 5 mins from the busy strip, 5 mins from the beach and 25 mins from the Old Town. Things you may find useful -

The pool, rooms and staff are excellent here, no complaint there. The only issue we had, was that our room was situated on the back and with residential house being there. You find you might hear a lot of barking dogs through the night and early in the morning. If like my g/f you're a light sleeper, this will be an issue. Due to the hotel being full, they could not move us. After speaking to a few other guests, they to had complained and had the same response!!! Food for thought.

For a young family holiday, I would recommend staying near the Old Town. It has a much more family orientated feel about it and has more 'classy' bars than the strip. Saying that I would be happy to stay here again but only if guaranteed a room at the front of the hotel!!

We have just returned home from our 10 night holiday in Portugal. We all had a very enjoyable stay. When we arrived at the airport we had booked transfers with Yellowfish. The driver was waiting as promised at point of meeting. The transport was new, clean and car seats waiting for the children. Arriving & departing at the hotel/apartments. The drivers were polite and friendly. Collection was spot on time as promised. On arrival at the hotel/apartments, The guy on reception was pleasant and informative. The hotel/apartment is lovely, modern, clean, spacious, lots of seating in the reception area, library for swapping your holiday books, tables and chairs beside the pool, two pools (kids pool perfect for our 4 & 6 year old to mess around in/play, with us watching knowing they were safe in the water and the main pool to do swimming) The apartment was clean, spacious and modern looking. It really felt like the cleaners popped into the room every day to either sweep up, add the toiletries, change the bedding and towels. (The towels were either lovely and fluffy or some times a bit tired looking - but always clean). My husband complained his bed was uncomfortable (which in fairness his mattress was not as nice as mine). The kids liked sleeping in the main room of the apartment. Son sleeping on the sofa and daughter on the pull out bed from under the sofa. (We didn't realise this could be put up onto legs, but the cleaners sorted this on their first visit to the room). Our room was overlooking the pool which was lovely, nice balcony to sit during the evenings when kids in bed. The down side for us was the nightclub across the road. We couldn't hear the music it was just the people were noisy leaving the venue in the early hours of the morning. (Kids slept through it). Other downside is with people bagging the sunbeds by placing their towels on them from silly a clock in the morning. As the days went on we met all the staff who were always friendly. They were attentive and would happily bring over food we had ordered, to where we were sitting. We found the prices they charged was not much difference from any of the restaurants. Like most places you need to have a good look around. (supermarket on the corner was great for stocking up on all drinks and snacks alot cheaper). We started off half board. The breakfast had plenty to chose from but the evening meal only had two options for each course which didn't work well with young children - (The food was always lovely and enjoyable to eat. Our first night was the chicken and it was gorgeous, fab start to the holiday) so we changed the eating arrangements, which the hotel were happy to do. In fairness, It gave us the opportunity to explore the many near by restaurants in Albufeira and The Old Town. The Old town was a good 30/40 minute walk from Areias. Taxi one way was give or take 5 euros or the train 4 euros each, children under 5 free, ticket valid all day travel (BUT only had 4 stops for drop off/pick up - which we had to work out where they were. Other hotel guest helped us with that one). be prepared to que to get transport home. The evenings we enjoyed being out and about - the hotel/apartment didn't offer any entertainment but they are only small building so we understood why they didn't. Plenty of entertainment along the Strip, 5 mins away or In the Old Town you could find SO much to entertain you, catering for everyones tastes. Find the' main square' and explore, not the one right next to the cliff with the escalators, keeping going :0). The beaches - We discovered going right, out of the gate, passed the restaurant Chilli Pepper (nice place for a drink and snack). There is 3 different beaches you can get to from this direction. Our favourite is the one where you go right at the hotel pass chilli pepper then, follow the sign for the beach. (The shells are amazing). We had a lovely 10 nights. Thank you Areias we had a very enjoyable stay with you.

Room Tip: The apartment was very spacious and ideal for a family of four to stay in. If your a light sleeper b...

OK just back from 9 nights at this hotel, it was fabulous, lovely rooms, clean towels 3 times a week and cleaner came in every day to make beds and hoover etc.. Reception staff were lovely, bar staff at pool friendly but a little slow. Here is the down part, alcohol and drinks very expensive (2.50 for water and 8.50 for bacardi and coke) so we just took our own water and got ice and didn't have any drinks there at night, no ambience whatsovere happening at night, probably down to prices of drinks. No entertainment and the sleepy music that was playing was so low we could hardly hear it which made the days seem quite long so we would go to beach. Directly across from a nightclub so that can sometimes wake you up if your a light sleeper. Overall a nice comfortable stay but nothing going on for kids and no atmosphere whatsoever.
