My friends and I are regular clients of the Catraio and we always take our visitors there. It was closed for renovation for two months recently and is now much more spacious and very stylishly decorated. However the owner and staff are mostly the same and are always friendly and welcoming. You never have to wait long, even when the restaurant is absolutely full of local Portuguese.and foreign residents,Spanish visitors and tourists from all over.As for my group, we always have the local bread and olives to start with and some love the soup. For main dishes the steaks with various sauces, lamb cutlets, chicken with gravy, Portuguese steak with an egg on top, grilled sole are the most popular, and chicken curry, chilli com carne and lasagne are also favourites. The meals are very well served - you can have baked potatoes, chips or rice if you wish and vegetables and salad Portuguese friends always enjoy the Seafood cataplana, which has generous helpings of fish, prawns, clams, etc. There is an excellent choice of homemade desserts, but warm apple pie.with cream or ice cream goes down best with my friends. The Alentejo house wines are good value and other wines are not overpriced. We finish off with coffee and would never expect to pay more than 15 - 20 euros each on our Saturday night out. The owner always sends along a complimentary glass of port together with the bill.If you eat here, I'm sure you will enjoy the atmosphere and return again and again.
