We stayed at this hotel as a family of 4 in a one bedroom apt. for two weeks from 28th July -11th Aug. The hotel is situated high up above the old town of Albufeira.
We were impressed by the hotel from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. The reception staff were all helpful and friendly, and got us checked in quickly and directed us to our room. The apartment was spacious and fitted out to a high spec. and kept spotlessly clean by the maids. The kitchen area had a washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and a full range of utensils. The bathroom was a good size with modern fittings and fixtures. Both living room and bedroom beds were a decent size, although a little uncomfortable. Both rooms were air conditioned and the balcony was the biggest we have had in this type of room, with wonderful views over the old town and Atlantic beyond. One complaint that I did have with the room, is that there were only two chairs on the balcony. When I asked at reception for another two, I was told that there was only two chairs per room, which is unfortunate when there are four people in the room.
As previously mentioned, there is a shortage of sunbeds in the pool area, which results in the 'sunbed scramble' at 7 each morning, if you are not on a sunbed by 8, forget it! Although there are large grass areas to sit on around the pool. The pool side snack bar offers a good choice of snacks and sandwiches, at reasonable prices. The staff, Francisco, Fernanda, and Molylene work hard to keep the customers happy at all times.
There is a lack of entertainment at the hotel, but when I mentioned it to Pete (great guy) the Thompson's rep. he said it was because the hotel is known as a spa hotel for rest and relaxation. Not quite sure why there is a fully fitted gym then? There is an underground games room, but is in need of a makeover and the games need to be updated.
The hotel has a mini-supermarket across the road, which is open from 8 until 22.00 every day. It has marked up prices, but you pay for the convenience of it. Aldi and Lidl are a 10 minute walk away and have everything you will need.
Now to the 'dreaded steps'. These steps lead down to the old town, about a 5 minute stroll. We thought the steps were not as bad as previous reviewers had mentioned. Obviously not suitable for families with buggies, and people with walking difficulties, but what steps are? If, like us, you are puffing once you get to the summit, you are just unfit, like me! The Hotel runs a courtesy mini bus to the old town 4 times a day, the last one is at 5 in the evening. After that
The old town has a lovely ambience and nightlife, with plenty of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes.
All in all, I could not fault this hotel, and would recommend it, and would definitely stay there again.
