Just returned from 10 nights in these apartments. There are approx 103 steps (counted every one!) to get to the main town square. Going down, not so bad, but back up is hard work. There are plenty of taxis, however, there is nothing really around the apartments, so you need to go down to the square-so beware if youre not very mobile. The apartments, other than this, are fantastic, cleaners came in every day! They are well equiped with dishwasher, washing machine etc, but no hairdryer or iron (don't forget them!). There is an indoor pool, sauna etc - which is great if weather not so good!
There is a small supermarket across the road, but quite expensive, so we went to Lidl after reading other reviews - glad we did. Turn left out of the apartment, go up the hill, follow the road round, until get to a car park, go right, follow road & Lidl in front of you. Takes approx 10mins to walk (up bit of hill), so i would recommend you go maybe twice a week, stock up on water, beer etc & then get taxi back (5 Euros). We did walk back once, but hard work carrying shopping!!
In the town there are plenty of really good quality restaurants, as a tip try the ones on the side streets of the town square, much nicer & better value for money.
Can't comment in the restaurant, as only ever had snacks by the pool during the day, which were lovely, and reasonable value for money. We did however, use the bar at night, when we had staggered back up the steps. Lovely views sitting in the bar overlooking the town & not badly priced.
The staff here are all really nice & friendly (as were most people we met during our stay).
The only quibble I have is that these are 4* apartments, that are mostly occupied by families & couples, but there was 1 stag & 1 hen party. The Hen party wasnt really a problem, but the stags was a group of about 15 men, who as you can imagine we knew they were there!! The language round the pool, jumping in etc got a little out of hand - if I had kids, I wouldnt have been happy! They also came in at about 5pm in the morning singing & shouting. This was soon bought under control by the staff, but personally I dont think the apartments should allow these parties - they will know what is going to happen!! That is the only reason why I havent given 5*, I wouldnt go back specifically because of this, but would try another, maybe quiter area. Thank goodness we were about 15-20mins from the strip, or it would have been much worse.
All in all, these are great apartments, really handy for the old town, but far enough away so you dont hear the noise, providing you can cope with the walking!!
Cannot fault one single aspect of the Cerro Mar Gardens - the apartments are large ,well equipped and kept very clean by the staff - all mod cons included.
The beach is a bit further than the brochure mentioned and is only reached via some steep steps routed through the old square - not too bad if you take it easy and as an option the taxi from the town centre is only 4 euro if you dont fancy the climb back up - we went with two other couples and all agreed that it was on the definite to go back to list.
The old town of Albufeira was certainly a hundred times better than the new town which is much more for the younger set - a wealth of great bars and restaurants serving all sorts of fish & grill dishes as well as traditional dishes awaits you in the old town - try the fish seafood Cataplana as a special treat in Bravo or Atrium restaurants - one to avoid at all costs was Zansi 2 - everything microwaved & frozen with awful service.
The beach itself is well managed and plenty if not expensive loungers and parasols are available ( 15 euro ) for 2 - only negative on the beach is if you are a non smoker you will get annoyed. For trips we would certainly recommend the dolphin safari with Dolphins driven - longer trip & better knowledge of the waters - dont do the open top bus tour as it was a complete waste of time & money
Just returned from two weeks at the Cerro Mar. The apartments are spacious and modern. The cleaning staff do a great job in and around the hotel. All staff welcoming. The steps to the town aren't that bad. Stop Off at Sir Harrys Bar Which is just at the bottom of the steps - great place and the staff are lovely. We would recommend the boat trip "dolphins driven" and the trip to "slide and splash". We also paid for the market trip - don't bother! It's a waste of time and money. Overall we had a great time and would certainly return to the Cerro Mar.
Just got back today 9/6/13 from a week at cerro mar gardens.. travelled as a couple aged 24/25. As we stepped off the coach at 10.00 at reception we was met by very friendly and helpful staff. we was told check in was 4pm but as soon as we arrived our room was ready... When we opened the front door to our apartment we both looked at each other in shock from the cleanliness and size of our room,it was HUGE!! It had everything you needed. washer, fridge, freezer, dishwasher cutlery ironing board,tv.. We were lucky enough to have a double balcony which overlooked the beautiful views of the pool, old town and the sea.. only down side from our opinion the beds were hard and uncomfortable other than this the accommadation would of been a 10/10.. The pool area was spotless and there was always available sunbeds to use. The bar and waiting staff in the day were excellent and always went beyond the call of duty to ensure complete satisfaction especially Fernanda..We read previous guests reviews of the dreaded steps down to the old town/beach but we found that if you took it nice and steady they wasnt that bad and it was worth being a little out of breath and there was a bar at the end to quench your thirst!!! Old town was beautiful from the variety of excellent restaurants and bars too the unique and reasonably priced shops.. Bar street is a must there is a vibrant atmosphere with loads of different bars with live entertainment going on all around. The pr staff dont hassle you too much and let you go in bars of your own accord. All in all it was a fantastic week and we was sad too come home.. Pictures dont do it justice its even better when your there.. The only downside for us was there was no entertainment on site so we didnt have the option to stay on the grounds in the evening if wanted.. We would definetly go back without any hesitation in the near future.. We hope you find our review helpful and informative. From Dan and Leanne
We had a 2 bedroom apartment for our family of 5.kitchen was well facilitated, 2 bathrooms a godsend with 3 daughters, as was the washing machine. bar was reasonably priced as was the restaurant where we ate on our first night. All very clean and the service from reception was excellent on the occasions we wanted anything(asked for 3 extra pillows on our way out around 8pm and when we got back later in the evening they were waiting on the bed).
Unfortunately the bowling alley was out of order for our entire visit which the kids were a little disappointed whereas i was elated as being stuck inside with them would have done nothing for me.
A little music around the pool would have been nice from a personal point of view
