Hotel Apartamento Cerro Mar Garden
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 31, 2011

Our family travelled to Cerro Mar Garden for Christmas 20-27Dec. We have small childeren ages 1 and 5, and were overall very very happy with the hotel. It is spotlessly clean, very fresh and modern and fully equiped with anything you could need. Rooms were large, we had 608, amazing sea and old town view, my mum had 610 which is the one to look out for, huge room and massive balcony. Kitchens have dishwasher, washing machine, huge firdge freezer, hob and oven, everything so clean, we ate in almost every night! We used the indoor swimming pool everyday, 2 jacuzzi's, sauna, steam room for free. Indoor pool heated, but still a little cold for my 1 year old's liking! bowling was broken, but were weren't fussed. There was a games room, all sorts of machines the kids would love. The hotel was very quiet at this time of year, which was great for us, but on the downside, if we hadn't had children, the atmosphere might have been lacking a little. The bars and restaurants were very quiet. The steps to the old town are hard going, we found better steps a litle round the corner, was hard work with a pram, but worth it for the view from the hotel. Overall, best hotel we've stayed in for a long time, very happy christmas had splashing around in the sea, one to remember!

Room Tip: 610 is a beauty!

Albufeira itself is no t somewhere me nad my partner or my dad and his partner would choose for a holiday destination but we where all in albufeira for my step sisters wedding. We took along time researching accomidation and all i have to say is that we made the right decision.

We got our apartment at a great price and we booked it based on good reviews and decided that where we stayed wasnt really a big deal as being at the wedding was the important thing

Well from the moment we entered the hotel reception we all knew we'd got a bargain there are no photos of it that i can find but the modern building has the most amazing domed ceiling it felt like 5*. Then we got the keys to our apartment and the suprises just kept coming 2 bedrooms 2 balconies the most amazing view 2 bathrooms one with a bath a very well equiped kitchen sky television the list goes on. Spotlessly clean.

The hotels facilities where excellent and none of the pictures on the hotels website truly do this place justice

We had breakfast in the hotel one morning it was ok but personally we prefer exploring and finding local places

We used the bar an a few occassions and found it great value and a lovely place to finish off an evening

All round i never thought I'd say it but i might just pop back to albuferia to visit a few gems we found and thisis definetly top of the list

We stayed at the Cerro Mar Garden from the 22nd October 2011 to 28th October.

We were married in April 2010 and we found out we were having our first child so we decided to wait for our honeymoon and have a family holiday. As it was a honeymoon we chose this hotel as it was 4 star and I really wanted the sea view that so many reviewers had spoken of!

I emailed the hotel a few times asking some questions as we had an 11 month daughter I was worried about a few things such as cots/highchairs etc. I always recieved a reply the same day which was great.

When we arrived the hotel the staff were friendly. We did have 2 large cases, a travel cot, 2 hand lugguage and a baby in a pram, yet we weren't helped up to the room with our stuff which meant my husband had to make 2 journeys. There was 2 members of staff on reception so it would of been nice to have an offer of help but we didn't let it bother us too much as it might simply be hotel policy.

We arrived at the apartment and opened the door. I was wishing for the sea view for months leading up to the holiday and as I entered the apartment the living area was large, with all the curtains closed. I had a peek behind the curtains and right at that moment nothing could of ruined our holiday! We had a HUGE roof terrace and the most amazing views. We literally walked around the apartment for 15 minutes amazed by how beautiful it was!

The rest of the week we loved every second of staying here. We used the indoor pool as our daughter is only 11 months and it was a little chilly. You have to wear swimming hats in the indoor pool which didn't bother me but my husband wasn't happy about it and also you can buy the swimming hats from the spa reception for 4 euros or from some shops in the old town for 2 euros. It was a little annoying when some people were in the pool without the hats when you have bought them but the spa staff did tell people a few times.

We ate in the restaurant once and found the waiter we had to be very rude. So rude that we didn't believe he could actually be a waiter as he didn't have the right table manner and he made us feel very unwelcome. However the food was very good and very reasonably priced, cheaper than many places in the old town.

The steps down to the old town that everyone mentions were not an issue to us and we had baby but we are young and fit.We do quite a lot of walking at home but I can easily see how it would be a problem for some and it wouldn't be suitable for anyone with walking problems at all.

The apartment was always clean, maids came everyday.

Be careful of breaking/marking anthing as you will be charged on checking out!

Ironing board in apartment but no iron. No hairdryer either.

Fantastic hotel, would and will return.

Loved every minute and we have very happy memories of our first family holiday that we will always cherish.

Room Tip: We had room 501 which had a HUGE roof terrace and great sea views

We stayed at Cerro Mar Garden for a week in July on a package trip. Paid a bit extra for a bigger balcony and a partial sea view, and got a huge roof terrace and a spaceous one bedroom apartment (501) with views to the east, south and west, and wonderful sea view from the terrace. I recommend apartments 501 and 601 (our friends stayed there) for the views and the roof terraces and more spaceous living rooms.
We went half-board at the hotel. The food in the buffet was ok, but there was not enough of variety and the dinner buffet itself was pretty small. Ok for a week, but not for a longer stay.
The fitness room was good until later in the afternoon, when the sun started shining in and the air conditioning could not keep up with the rising temperature.

I would never choose a hotel like this myself, but joined a wellness retreat with friends, which was located here. Cerro Mar Garden one of those big faceless ”factories”, only for package travelers. Lots of kids around the pool. It’s clean and there is a selection of facilities but there is absolutely no kind of atmosphere.

Few major complaints: 1) You have to pay separately for the internet – this should be included nowadays! 2) There are no hairdryers in the rooms, but you can ”rent” one for one hour at time from the reception. This is not only inconvenient, it’s definitely not **** service! 3) Same goes for a ridiculous policy of charging for booking you a taxi at the reception. 4) Breakfast is really basic and exactly the same buffet every day. 5) Dinner options for vegetarians are almost none. I chose a vegetarian lasagne – and it came with french fries on top of it! Unbelievable how hard it’s made to follow a healthy diet – and this while you participate a wellness retreat! Minimum would be to offer a customised wellness menu at the restaurant as they choose to have these retreats. 6) They do not offer towels for sunbathing although they do have a pool with loungers. While I would not expect this at a simple bed&breakfast (and have been offered them in such) – with a **** rating you simply should provide towels by the pool.

One detail I do want to compliment: you can watch outside through an entire glass wall while you do your exercises at the gym – very nice when you want to have a longer run on a treadmill.

But overall, they’re only able to pull it off because their target group of travelers is so inexperienced. I could not recommend staying here when there are so many, better alternatives!

we stayed here off season, the weather was fabulous but not alot of facilities were open at the time and the bar closed very early. The apartments were lovely with a brilliant view of old town and the sea. We were in a great location only a 5 minute walk from main square. The only problem we had was the staff at reception, some of them weren't very helpful and were quite ignorant. On check out we were shocked to hear that we were charged €10 extra for a small black stain on the bed sheets.

Room Tip: room 318 has a great view no need to worry about passing noises as its at the end of the hall

We stayed in one of the 3 room apartments on the fourth floor - two excellent bathrooms, two excellent bedrooms, a large common room/kitchen and three(!) balconys with great views over over the old town and the ocean from two of them. That part is five star. The pool area is quite pleasant - nice and green, with some possibilities of staying in the shadow . My wife and daughter told me the indoor pool and spa was ok as well.

The service, be it at the bar, reception, restaurant or the cleaning personnel was excellent - very friendly and efficient all through the week. The location is also excellent, if you don't mind the stairs leading down to the center of the old town - they are not that steep, and going down is no problem - going up is another story, but not a major issue for us. The hotel is close to the entertainments of the old town, but is itself in a fairly quiet area, making it perfect for a family vacation and for those who want ot be able to step out of the whole bar, disco, icecream, street artist, restaurant chaos which the old town may be at times.

Our main critique of the hotel is the restaurant, which is actually not all that bad, but certainly not very good either, food-wise (service was fine, though). However, that is probably pretty average for four star hotels in a city like Albufeira. The food was pretty indifferent, and breakfast became boring after the first three days to an extent so you didn't really care if you made it in time (until 10:00 AM) or not. However, the hotel apartment was fitted with a very good kitchen, and there's really no reason why you should eat in the hotel anyway, with the many, many options of the old town being so close by.

So, we can defintely recommend the Cerro Mar Garden - and we may stay there again at some time - only thing we would do different will be NOT to have breakfast and dinner at the hotel included in the stay...

Room Tip: Get a room on 4th or above for the best sea views
