“Hidden gem!”
Reviewed July 16, 2011

We first visited O Leao in 2005, and were so impressed, that 6 years later, on our next trip to the Algarve, we specifically sought it out. O Leao is better than ever! Do not believe the negative reviews below, our experiences were wholly positive- both times we returned! The charming waiters and owners were attentive, friendly, and helpful (not to mention multi-lingual!). Two of our party were vegetarian and both the first time we came (when we gave no notice of this) and the second time (when they knew), multiple off-menu vegetarian options were provided, and proved to be as delicious as all of the other food!

The setting on a rooftop courtyard with views of the village and the church tower is hard to beat. The food was, as mentioned, was exquisite, arrived promptly, and the atmosphere was extremely friendly. Both nights we went the restaurant was very full, yet this didn't impact the service at all, and indeed the other customers appeared to be enjoying their meals as much as we were!

All in all, this is one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in the Agarve, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in picturesque surroundings.

“Restaurante O Leao - Worst place to eat in Albufeira”
Reviewed September 24, 2009

The very truly friendly, maitre d welcomed us inside were we were seated and ordered drinks. We then waited half an hour before anyone asked us for our food order. Might I add the restaurant was not busy at this time as it was only early evening and there were only a few tables in.
We finally ordered 4 starters, 4 mains and 2 kids meals. Our starters arrived about 30 mins later. Another hour past before we got our main courses, and when they arrived there was no kids meals (our 4 yr old and 7 yr old, who are usually very well behaved when eating out were understandabily becoming irritable). We did end up feeding much of our meals to the children as their own meal did not arrive until another 1/2 hour later.
We asked to speak to the manager on at least 3 occasions. We could see him walking around the place. He certainly did not appear to be busy. We received some complimentary port (which we later discovered was compensation for bad service). When he finally did come to speak to us and we complained about the service we had received, he replied that this was standard waiting time between courses. He did however apologise for the mix up with childrens meals.
We asked for some discount on our bill, to which he replied, "we do not do discount". It was then he advised that the port was compensation for the bad service. We paid in full with no tip, thanked the charming maitre d on the way out. Avoid at all costs as management and staff (apart from the maitre d) have no customer service skills whatsoever.

“Excellent Food, Service & Hospitality”
Reviewed August 3, 2009

Unfortunately we didn't find this restauarant until late into the 1st week of our 2 week holiday (kept walking past - big mistake!). It is situated at the "nicer" end of the strip in Montechoro (Very near the Montechoro Hotel and Vila Petra Aparthotel).

As a family of four, (2 adults and 2 teenagers) we wanted quality food with great service at reasonable cost and found it here in abundance. The meeter & greeter (Jorge) is a very friendly, genuine guy - he passes you on to your waiter for the evening, always making you feel your custom is valued.
The chef at this restaurant is simply fantastic we dined here on 5 evenings and each time all four of us had a wonderful meal.
The owners Jorge and Doria take the time to speak to their diners and make you feel very welcolme.
My only regret is that this restaurant is in the Algarve and not nearby to our home.
I have never posted a review for a restaurant before on any internet site, but felt I needed to share this restaurant with others. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
