We were looking for a nice place to have lunch in Albufeira, and although only 19th for this city in the TA ranking we went to O Manjar. It’s off the main square, a small, unpretentious but neat restaurant. Polite service, and my goodness, what food! We had the cataplana de bacalhau (stew of salted dried cod), which, according to my wife who is an expert on the subject (bacalhau being her favourite dish) was the best meal she has ever had. I’m not much of a fan of cod, but this was a dish for two, so we shared it, and even I had to admit it was excellent. Steaming stew of bacalhau with clams, prawns, vegetables – superb. This restaurant certainly deserves a better place in the ranking!
