After reading some of the reviews on here i felt compled to give a honest opinion. The hotel is spotless, granted not many people used the resturant but with the fully equiped kitchen and plenty of places to eat, its a matter of personal choice and budget.
Our kitchen area had everything we needed and more ( even a fruit bowl !!!!! ) Beds were comfy, living area huge, english channels on the tv. Plenty of storage space, home from home.
As far a getting supplies the Mondelo supermarket is within walking distance ( conterary to other reviews ) go out the rear of hotel, through the park opposite, up the sand lane to the end and turn right, ( its right there ) For great curry ,Tandoori curry house in next road is fantastic. Out of hotel, turn right to roundabout, first exit off roundabout and its right there ( thats walking ) if you carry on walking straight up the road you come to the new STRIP area with lots of pubs shops and resturants,
The Forte do vale did not let us down. Would return tomorrow.

first the positive side of the aparthotel
great large moden apartments,dishwasher,hob,microwave/grill,large fridgefreezer,
washing machine, dishwasher.all first floor windows one way glass(dont now about other
floors),LCD tv in lounge BBC,ITV, SKY NEWS, CNN, silent digital/remote air con in
lounge/bedroom,hairdryer in bathroom, safe in bedroom, safety chain on main door,
clothes airer avalable from reception FOC,also I believe irons can be hired, staff on reception very pleasant.,two pools 1.43 deep ,small paddling pool, poolside bar ices
beer/soft drinks pizzas, sunbeds, parasols. happy hour in bar, large beer 1.50e 5.30-9pm

now the negative side of the hotel
no information pack/instructions in apartment to tell how to operate appliances including
phones ect, not much thought gone into designing the kitchen layout, if you plan to eat in
and are uder 5foot 6inch forget the microwave its built in at a height of approx 5f 8inch
to the hotplate on the bottom,to say there are cooking utensels is a joke, we have all read
there is no kettle(we took a travel one) only one pan (big enough have a bath in) looked
silly boiling an egg, no scissors and as we all know everything comes in shrink wrap these days also try frying an egg using a spoon(no spatula)there is a resturant but only
ever saw a max of two people using it, wether its poor or there are so many places to eat
out we just dont know.Safe, if you want to use it a key from reception must be obtained
at 2.50e per day. There is a gym and indoor pool but at 15e per day or 30e per week we
never bothered, and last the old pool sunbed sarga, you may have read there are plenty
and never any probems this must be out of season, for the first few days we tried the English way and not having any success reverted to the German system.
although beds were made and towels changed had to complain to get the rooms cleaned.
Eating in or out
local supermarket "Blue" for odds and ends, turn right out of back of hotel about 200 yards
if you are doing the full eating in holiday you will nead to use the "Modelo" Asda type supermarket about 4e by taxi but you will save this amount on perhaps about 5 items
local resturant next to "Blue" is ok and good value, breakfast was taken on odd days
just past Blue/resturant another(200yds) at Bora Bora (2 eggs,1 sausage,1piece bacon
beans, large fried tomato, thick slice of buttered toast +tea/coffee 5e.further up that road
you have "Fast Cats" with use of pool as well (Fast does not in this case apply to the
service)across from this is a fantastic bakery always full, great bread/rolls.
for a great curry 4e by taxi gets you to the "Clay Oven" 3 curry houses next door to each
other but this is the best Cobra beer as well, but if you go late you will have to "Q"
Finally best value we found was the "A Concha" left, out of back of hotel to island, last
right signed "To The Beach Club" this is also the road to the Old Town.4 adults 2 kids
2 lots garlic bread,6 large beers, small bottle mates rose, 2 fanta,2 chicken kebab,2 chicken piri piri, 1 mixed kebab, 1lasagne, 4 puddings. total 81.55e about 800 yds
from the hotel its on the right.

I stayed at this hotel last year with my sister and we had a fab holiday, Felt safe the whole time. amazing location right between the strip and the old town and not too far a walk to the beach. hotel was so clean and had 24 hour security. All staff were very nice and helpful. THe rooms were fab! Massive with brand new kitchens including dishwasher! More than 1 supermarket nearby and round the corner was an amazing bakery which did the best bread and pizzas i've ever tasted. I would definately stay here again as i couldnt fault anything about it.

My boyfriend and i stopped at forte do vale for 2 weeks from 18jul-1aug 2010! It was our 3rd holiday together and this is by far the best hotel we've stopped in! The Apartments are finished to a very high standard, very tastefully decorated, spacious, light and airy (brilliant air con system) and well equipped! built in microwave, washer, dishwasher, big fridge freezer. it has a toaster and lots of cuttlery, utensils, crockery, pans etc but it has no kettle and oven. but you can request a kettle from reception if need be (we didnt need one) and we got on fine without an oven! as although we were selfcatering...we didnt really "self cater"! we ate out every night. The hotel is situated half way between old and new town and there are so many great restaurants to try!

The hotel is spotlessly clean! maids were great and staff very helpful. we arrived at about noon and the check in time in portugal is 2pm but our room was ready and lady at reception was really organised and we were checked in within about 2mins! pool area also really nice and clean and pool bar was great too!

The beach is about 10mins walk away but its not a very nice walk :( i neally died of a heart attack coming back!!! very steep!! but it was good to work off all the lovely big meals we ate! lol

we had a fabulous holiday, made better by the helpful staff, great people we met and beautiful apartment and pool!!! we would definatly recommend....and we would go back again.

The nicest hotel i've stayed in yet. Great value at 450 for a week compared with friends staying in nearby hotels and no comparison in my opinion. Very decent size rooms and wardrobe spaces are top notch for those of us who bring everything but the kitchen sink! Looks exactly as it does in brochure -no juicer as stated, but not a problem, no kettle either but use the saucepan and ladle... bingo! Sound air-conditioning in bedroom and lounge, hairdryer in bathroom, built in radio system in lounge and bedroom too. If you get a room facing the pool you'll have sun alll day long. Nice little bonus too was the reflective windows so you could have your blinds drawn back knowing nobody outside can see in! Black out blinds were great for an afternoon nap and cleaners never too early! Once the doors were shut you cant hear a thing outside.

Walked to old town centre as i have been here before, in all honesty it takes about 25 mins and i just got reception to call a cab every other time as it was nice, quick and cost about 4euro. A pleasant 5-10 mins walk down to beach.

Quiet hotel - friendly staff as long as you are friendly to them, that's what we noticed and once you speak to them they are lovely. Entertainment at night in bar but nothing that filled the place. Drink €1 for glass of beer and €1.50 for pint between 5 and 10 o'clock! Great value!

Entertainment for kids or kids clubs are not really to be found here so if you have older children who are looking for mad fun at pool or to make lots of friends i would not stay here. But if you are with young children and want them to have comfort and a good cool night's sleep i would reccomend it 100%.

Had a look at fitness centre and spa. It was 15euro a day, didnt bother with it.

Much preferred Old town for food and nights out - Buddy's for a great steak and glass of wine while enjoying the entertainment in the square. The New Town has a good fine massive irish bar Erin's Isle that has a Michael Jackson tribute on Thursday which is good if you have kids or large groups. If you wanna eat near hotel i was pleasantly surprised by the Tandoori round the corner when you go out front door. Great value and delicious!

Only negative, (and it's very very minor) is that lifts were a bit of a pain, ages waiting so used the stairs more often!!

Highly highly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Myself, the wife and two children were looking forward to this holiday, on looking at the hotel via their website it looked impressive, spacious and modern. On reading other reviews i knew we were in for a treat. The hotel is just literally off then main road that runs along the coast and is situated about 10 minutes gentle walk to the strip and about 15 minutes to the old town, so is ideally placed to experience both. The location makes the hotel quite. Superb beaches are on your door step, usually down steep paths/roads, so people with walking difficulties should bear this in mind. If you wish to stock up on groceries then use the Modelo supermarket (the 'Blue' supermarket next to the hotel is expensive!), its about a 10 minute walk away, ask reception for directions. on leaving the hotel via the restaurant/bar exit turn left and follow the road down until you come to a bakery called Pao Da Aldeia and this does fantastic loafs, cobs and cakes. The hotel is spotless, and the reception is efficent and helpful. The pool area is well maintained and has plenty of sunbeds. We stayed in an one bedroom appartment and the rooms are very large. The kitchen is well equipped, and includes dishwasher and washing machine. YES no kettle, but a pan works! The rooms have air conditioning, and this works effectively when required. Overall i would recommend this to anybody who wants a quite hotel, with great facilities/pool and superb beaches on your doorstep!

WOW - This hotel was amazing! Spotlessly clean, modern & spacious. Staff friendly and very helpful. Plenty of sunbeds all day. Pool was very quiet - never more than 4 other people in, even though the hotel was full to capacity.
Towels changed every day. Best equipped hotel Ive ever stayed in. The washing machine came in very usefull when a seagul pooed all over me and our towels whislt sunbathing!
Its about a 10 min walk to the strip and a 20 min walk to the old town. We got a taxi back each night for just less than 5 euro.
If I had to moan about anything it would be that the pool doesnt have a shallow end, its 1.43m in both pools so my yound girls couldnt 'stand' and I could barely reach (only on tip toes) so it was hard for me to help them practice without armbands - but that was no big deal.
Would definately reccomend.
