we were both impressed with our one bedroom apartment. very spacious, well equipped and it looked as though thought had gone into soft furnishings, pictures, lamps etc.
our tv 'died' on the first night we were there - next day, it was replaced so no complaints on service.
we had read reviews before going so took a travel kettle so its hard to find anything negative.
we didnt visit the pool area so cannot comment.
the apartments were quiet, with no outside noise at all.
having read recent reviews, we feel lucky we had no problems with security etc.
an ideal base for both old and new areas of the town.

having enjoyed our holiday, i would recommend Forte do vale to anyone.

The apartments were spacious and well laid out... the washing machine was a fantastic bonus especially with young kids.
A small soft play area for kids would be great either as when too hot they need something to do. Also as our group had teenagers 13 twins and a 16 year old were looking for something to do when inside as entertainment was not enough to keep them amused.
Staff were lovely and friendly. The only suggestion I could think of as its a self catering holiday that there could be more equipment in the kitchen like bigger sieves and maybe a brush and shovel as the maids did not sweep the floor once...
Staff told us the Blue Supermarket next to the hotel out the back door is one of the most expensive ones about! The Modelo is a ten to fifteen min walk out back door of hotel. On the way to the Model( large supermarket) you will come across a couple of self service restaurants and lots of little places of the main road they are well worth a visit and you pay by weight..Chioce of soup, then about 8 different mains and local dishes, salad bar and fruit , desserts and drinks too good value. Big green self service rest on corner out back door of hotel , turn right ...cant miss it lovely . Be back for our 4th time next year .
Found the Strip very noisy and expensive to eat out.

Just got back from a 10 day stay in the Forte Do Vale hotel
The good points
Absolutely stunning place in a good location between 'The Strip' (bars, clubs, pubs, chips and scantilly clad females) and the 'Old Town'
The generously proportioned and well equipped apartments are serviced every day with towels and a quick clean of the bathroom and bed making (most days) but aren't cleaned during your stay, but have plenty of storage space for your clothes and some high cupboards so that you can hide the suitcases out of the way
The kitchen was more or less full kit with a fridge freezer, hob, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, knives, forks, pots, pans, plates, cups and saucers and an electric toaster, but .....wait for it.........NO KETTLE!!!
Apparently they don't use kettles, but no sweat, you just have to boil the water in a saucepan and laddle it into the cups
There's a small supermarket about three minutes walk away for all the convenience stuff and a superb little bakers that sells the most gorgeous croissants
If you're eating out inb the evening, there are a million and one places all doing similar food, and it all seems to be of a good standard, which I suppose it needs to be really or they'd go skint, but we found a couple of places worth a special mention, namely La Palacette, The Benvindo, and if you like curry The Clay Oven just up from the Worms roundabout is absolutely superb, run by an Indian family from Wembley with a chef from the North Punjab, who I wish worked at my local Indian restaurant
The bad points
Two single beds pushed together to make the 'double', both formed from reinforced concrete. No actually that's a lie, concrete's got more give in it than those beds!
The two teir infinity pool, although stunning to look at, forms part of the first stages to being cryogenically preserved, and claims that 'it's lovely once you get in' should be viewed with a great deal of scepticism, cos it's (--)freezing!!!
Security, or the lack of, was the biggest let-down
We were there with some mates, and on the night before they came home, someone burgled their room along with ours next door and another four apartments that we were aware of, taking a total of about €2500.00 in cash and goods.
We were the lucky one's as we only lost two mobile phones and a few quid in English left in the bedside cabinets, but two of the apartments had the safes broken into, accounting for the bulk of the cash, about €1700.00 in total
Having gone out that evening and double locked the door, we should have known something was amiss when we came back as it was only single locked, but you get used to the staff coming and going as they please
We reported it to reception the next morning once we'd realised and they called the police who duly attended for about five minutes, took a few details, asked us if we'd locked everything when we went out, didn't check to see if anything had been forced, which it hadn't, and went away again.
Whilst we were at the reception speaking to the female receptionist, a foreign couple who'd had €500.00 stolen from their safe came down from their room with a security man and then the Manager appeared......
He spoke to the security man and the receptionist in Portuguese, whilst managing to totally ignore all the rest of us, made no eye contact, offered no apology or any words of encouragement, then disappeared upstairs with them leaving us in limbo waiting for the police.
The words rude and arrogant spring to mind....
The couple that had lost €1200.00, again from a forced open safe only discovered it later that day, and when it was reported to the police, they replied that they'd been to the hotel once already and weren't prepared to attend again, so if they wanted to persue the complaint they'd have to go to the police station and file a report there.
Having done this, the officer who'd taken their details then releived them of another €10.00 for the privelage!
Must have been something to do with the value of the theft I guess, because we, having also travelled to the old bill shop, managed to get our twelve page report done, and obtain our crime reference number for free!, (result!) as did the woman who'd had her handbag nicked out of her hire car, and the two lads who'd been mugged and lost cash and phones and had a few cuts and bruises to take home as souvenirs
Apparently the safes, the couple were told, are nothing to do with the hotel, but are supplied and maintained by an outside contractor, so claims or pleas for compensation from the hotel fall on very deaf ears
So, all in all, a lovely place, but probably best not to take any good jewellery or expensive watches, or vast amounts of cash, unless you're prepared to keep it with you at all times and even then you run the risk of being mugged for it, so a Timex and travellers cheques I think is the way forward
Enjoy!

arrived here after a disasterous couple of days at the bayside salgados. It was like waking from a nightmare to get cuddles from your mum! The forte do vale have extremely friendly helpful staff, a great end of season tarrif, good variety of entertainment in the bar and a pool you would quite easily get lost in. The hotel is nicely decorated with lots of lovely features. The self catering appartments are well equipped with everything you would need including a dishwasher and washing machine. Would go back only for longer next time!

Just returned from a weeks stay at the forte do vale. Would definately recommend if you are after a relaxing peaceful holiday. We booked a one bedroom apartment and planned to let the kids sleep in the bedroom, but the sofa bed opened up as two single beds side ways on, so were a little small, but fine for the kids. I guess the rooms differ in some ways as our kitchen was fine, except the no kettle, but having read the reviews we took a travel kettle. Could of done with an ice tray in the freezer. The maid came everyday to empty the bins, change the towels and make the beds, but only cleaned the floors and balcony once during our stay. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. The bar is very modern and reasonably priced but the bar staff like to disappear all the time so quite hard to get served.
We walked to the Strip which took about 10mins with the kids and about 20 minute walk to the old town. The kids loved the road train which runs from the strip to the old town and costs 4 euro per person for an all day ticket.
The Modelo supermarket is a good ten to fifteen minute walk but sells everything you would need.
Ate out on the strip most evenings. Senor Frogs at the top of the strip was fab and the staff very welcoming.
The beach at the old town is fantastic. 15 euro for 2 sunloungers and a parasol for the day.
Back to the hotel the health club was still not open nor the indoor pool but the kids loved the outdoor pool even if it was freezing water. Plenty of sunbeds, pool bar opens at 11.30. and very clean.

Nice and spacious apartments, very modern decor.
Shower good, beds really comfy. Kitchen had all we needed, can do without a kettle, boil a pan of water.
Friends apartment had a hair-dryer but ours didn't. Had one day of rain, so the t.v british channels were handy- even if it was Jeremy Kyle and This Morning.
Went to the Karaoke first night- dire. Drink reasonable price though.
Good location.
Great cocktails in the Zoo bar on our way to the strip. Eating out was good most places we went. Old Town a nice walk away.

Just returned from our second visit this year. Took along some friends who loved it. Reception staff are excellent and they arranged our rooms for where we requested, high level pool view. We have already booked for next April something they acknowleged. It is now becoming more popular as word spreads. Yes there are a few gripes as you may have anywhere you stay, such as no kettle, we just took a small travel one even though this time we found a filter coffee machine in the kitchen. With reference to one review concerning the sink, yes a few rooms do have the sink very poorly and you could catch your head if not careful, two of our groups rooms where like that. I was with a group of friends golfing for the first seven nights some then went home and the wives then came out for a few days to join us, I found that in our room a hairdryer had been fitted in the bathroom while we were away picking them up from the airport ( the other rooms already had them in) reception said 'well we thought your wife would want one!' Even though they are slowly fitting them to all the rooms I thought that was a nice touch. We only stay on self catering basis, The Health club still is not open, possibly down to funding. Tip....there is a lovely little cafe/bar just up the road called Bora Bora we had breakfast there everyday and got looked after very well. It is absolutely immaculate a credit to the husband and wife who own it. ( out of the back entrance on -1 level, turn right walk past the little supermarket until you come to the small road and its on the corner, its got a glass surround on the patio) also open in the evening for a nightcap! Looking forward to our next visit.
