As always we have had a great time staying at FDV (a few little negatives) but cant wait to book our next visit. We just love it there but have a few little niggles..

* The continual barking during the night from dogs (all night) was so annoying. Pleased to say building work has ceased at the moment at the front entrance so no noise from there.

* Sun umbrellas by the pool. Originally there was only 2 small ones at the pool. FDV was much busier than usual (with families and young kids) and people kept asking for umbrellas. Eventually they put out another 5 which was not enough for the amount of people using the pool. Hope they have more in the busier season otherwise this could be a problem.

*Breakfast at FDV very poor. I remember from last year breakfast wasn't that good but we tried twice this year and things hadn't improved (the food wasn't hot for a start and very poor selection). Cost 5.50 euros per person. Much better breakfast served at the Cottage (10 min walk) at a cost of 2.75 or nearby Bora Bora at 5 euros.

* Internet access is coin operated 1 euro for 10 mins but was unbelievably slow!

* Last little niggle why oh why do the maids always arrive at 4.30pm. We were always up and about early every day so the room was empty all day long yet they always arrived just as you were back in hoping to get your feet up.

These are just a few little niggles but we still love the place, the size of the apartments, the location etc etc. Very friendly reception and bar staff. Its a great place to stay and we will be going back. By the way entertainment was on in the bar 4 evenings and Happy Hour is 5 - 8pm.

Restaurant served dinner in the evening at a cost of around 8 euros for a 2 course. Garlic bread, soup or salad, meat or fish dish. Quite a few people were using the restaurant although we preferred to go out for dinner.

Safety deposit box, 2.75 euros per day and 10 euro returnable deposit.

Anyone going out soon Albufeira is a great place to visit and Forte do Vale is a great base.

One last thing. I notice lots of people complain about the beds but have to say we found them very comfy.

We booked this hotel as it was 4* and wanted a bit of luxury, we were upgraded free of charge as there were no studios available, so we got a 1 bed apartment, the rooms were massive!! Furnishings and everything were very good and a nice view to the sea. The staff, especially the gentleman on reception (cant remember name sorry!) were very helpful and helped us book our return shuttle for us.

Rooms are air conditioned and only 10 minutes either way to the strip or the old town.

The breakfast was ok, all you can eat but was on the cold side. Good value though at 5.50 euro. We didn't have evening meal. The bar also has entertainment at night.

Only problem we had was the pool wasn't heated and was too cold to use! Also the dog in the house next door wouldn't stop barking so kept me awake a bit at night! Not the hotels fault though.

Last year stayed at Forte Do Vale. The hotel is nice but found the cleaners reluctant to clean so did it myself although it was a longstay.Sofa very bad and stunck. No advice on how to use kitchen equipment and lock doors. This year stayed because favourite hotel full.Slipped and fell in bath right hand became trapped behind bathroom fitment and was bleeding, used left hand to free right hand which also started to bleed because bathroom fitment is very sharp where it fits on the wall. Had swelling and massive bruise for couple of weeks. when reported to reception receptionist spoke to manager on phone he asked "are they English, tell them the hotel is under no obligation to provide safety mats". Manager was furious because I wrote this in an in an incident book, came to our room in a rage. On another day let himself into our apartment while I was in my nightdress bawling and shouting because my husband was cooking breakfast and the smoke had set of an alarm in reception. pointed out that we had opened balcony door. He rushed into kitchen and pulled out extractor. Eusebio Pedro is rude, aggressive and a loose cannon. One day he will deck somebody he is very unprofessional and ignorant.

Room Tip: make sure you can look after yourself while you are there avoid the management

We recently stayed at this hotel,Reception was understaffed ,long wait to be seen! One person on duty> then sent to the wrong room. Finally got to our accommodation,2 bedroom apartment.(large and spacious) Room 201 on the entrance side.We had asked for sea view or pool view :-(
Pool area is large with lots of loungers.Bar area outside ,too small for the volume of guests.
Had dinner in the Hotel , on the first night and didn't enjoy it.Overall a very noisy hotel, with some stag party groups , making noise till early hours of the morning.
The beds in the rooms all singles pushed together :-( .
The best part of staying here was the fabulous restaurants in the close proximity we discovered,
Overall we were disappointed as it looked fabulous on the internet.
Would not stay here again.!

second time to albuferia and wasnt bad but not fantastic apartments in comparison to the last apts we stayed in. ( corocvada )
we travelled with our 22 month old and decided to stay here as it was little closer to the old town and lovely and close to beach.

good stuff : location is good, complex is spotless, modern, quiet enough until last day,

bad stuff : i had read the reviews about the beds and said they couldnt be this bad but myself & my husband ( both in our 30's) had the worst backs ever coming home today.. rock hard & i even popped the spare blanket under my top sheet as reviews on trip advisor but no joy!

unless you get a pool view which we didnt, i dont think the street or the rest is worth while complimenting . i had booked a pool view but there was a mix up.. the receptionist was so rude about this and also said i might not get a travel cot as i didnt request this either!! she made such a big issue of me apparently not requesting these!! whatever about the pool view but couldnt stay if we didnt get a travel cot...she had issues when i asked her to confirm our return taxi also as i hadnt got a ref. number but the company just gave me their number and said to confirm the day before...receptionist was again rude and made a big issue out of this and spoke so ignorantly to me about so...and yet again had it WAS sorted with 1 quick phone call...

on our last day there seemed to be a party of some sort arrived as the pool was crowded with guys drinking and it was pretty rowdy .cant be helped by hotel but we left as was very intimidating and i wouldnt go again if this was the usual crowd! they had no respect with a toddler passing pool...on our departure we met quiet a few of them drunk only heading to the bed at 7.30 which i have no problem with at all but with a child it becomes quiet threatening at pool area etc...

there was nothing in this apartment i.e.; washing liquid, washing powder...nothing so off we went & done a big shop and i bet anything we left was thrown out this morning! just other apts we stayed in would have the necessities to keep the place clean etc..

no wi fi in the ROOMS?? i had to work on one of the days ( comp work only) and went down to reception about this several times but they just said it should work and sorry but sit in reception area if you like as its the best??? crazy so i sat here and got my work done..not major but bit crappy in this day and age! no wi fi in rooms and only 2 english channels is fairly crap for a 4 star hotel !!!!

so over all it wasnt bad but wasnt great either...the receptionist & the beds were the worst!!!

Room Tip: pool view or dont bother staying here....

Just back from a 3 night stay here, couldn't fault this place in any way,we had a corner bedsit overlooking the pool (room 209) brilliant.Loads of room for 2 people, great pool, good pool bar,all the staff are vere helpful. The entertainment in the bar downstairs was ok but the barman was good craic, doing magic tricks and card tricks and giving us out free drinks,we've never had a cheaper night out .This hotel is 5mins walk to the strip and about 12 mins walk down to the old town, the spa is ok €50 for massage .We booked this through alpha rooms,€20 cheaper than trivago, greenbus was the cheapest transfer €24 return, they were bang on time.Would highly recommend this place to everyone.Would have no problem staying here again

Room Tip: Ask for pool veiw

Booked hotel through Alpharooms which was £20 cheaper than my usual booking website Travel Republic so it is worth shopping around.

Arrived at the hotel at 3pm and check in was quick and easy we got up to our room and it was brilliant. We were self catering and we had dish washer, washing machine, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and a microwave. Also we had a TV with a number of english TV channels. The hotel appears to be quite new and you can tell as soon as you walk in as it looks great.

As soon as we left our room we went down to sunbathe and get a drink by the pool we didnt have any cash but the bar tender who was very friendly said we could get what we want and pay him later, never had this sort of service in portugal/spain before.

I never used the gym or Spa so cant comment on them.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the new town, 15 minutes to the old town and 10 minutes to the closest beach. The train stop is across the road from the hotel and a day ticket is 7 euro.

We didn't have any meals or see the night entertainment in the hotel but we did have snacks during the day which were reasonably priced and tasty also the drinks were a good price a pint of local beer setting you back 2.50 euro or 2 euro in happy hour.

I would without a doubt recommend this hotel to anyone going to Albuferia, Portugal you couldnt get much better.
