Echoing what most have already said, my wife and I came here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary at the end of September (sunday evening).
First off, Peter (chef from Dublin) and Ana (Portuguese wife) were fantastic hosts who made you feel like they were welcoming you into their home.
Their passion for the food they serve is evident as they wait the tables themselves, making sure to explain not just what you are getting, but how it is prepared and the thinking behind it.
There are 2 set menus of 5 courses (although only one fish course on the night we were there because, as Peter explained, it's harder to keep the fish [that doesn't get eaten tonight] fresh. You are invited to mix and match from each menu, and in addition Peter had laid on an extra meat course that evening.
The courses were of a decent size given the quality of the food (not huge so you can't move at the end, but not tiny that you're left wanting more). Every course was superb (inlcuding the dessert which, given we were struggling to decide which to have, Peter suggested we have some of all 5!).
There is a good wine list (all wines being Portuguese - exactly as it should be in Portugal!) with the house wines coming from Cliff Richard's "Vida Nova" label.
Our meal was completed with a glass of very nice Port (which Ana insisted on refilling for me without charge) and coffee.
Our bill for 2 came in at around 150 euros which, given we were there for 3.5 hours and experienced fantastic food and great hospitality, was money well spent.
This is my first Tripadvisor review but I honestly felt I had to spread the word about the Dom Carlos as it really was the highlight of our 7 nights in Albuferia.
