“Golf Course”

Must rate as the most unfriendly welcome at a golf club - interesting if not hugely challenging course but the staff were so uninterested it made Parisian waiters seem overly charming.

“Fine resort in a fine area”
Reviewed February 23, 2009

We may have been lucky but the weather was perfect – sunny and warm throughout the week with a gentle breeze some days. In February, Parque da Floresta is quiet which suited us just fine. The views from the apartment were awesome and facilities first class. Check in and out was quick and easy. For supplies, the EcoMarche is close and proved to be very handy. In February the outdoor pool is for the hardy but there is a SPA with an indoor pool. We didn't get to try this. On another visit, we would make more use of the facilities in the complex as there are a number of offers for February bookings that we only noticed towards the end of our stay (e.g. Free tennis equipment hire). We booked through [-] and were delighted with the attention we received.

The beaches and cliffs along the west coast within the natural park region are magnificent, unspoilt and virtually empty in February with Amado in particular being, I imagine, a geologists dream. Bordiera beach is a surfer’s paradise and Arrafina particularly good for cliff top views. The Hansel and Gretel inn by the dam on the smaller reservoir (a 20 minute drive from the resort) is worth a visit for the delightful staff and the walks over the dam and around the reservoir.

The Ryanair flight from Stansted was, in our case, very good (if a little pricy - £700 for four adults) despite a stop on the way over to offload an ill passenger and a piece of suitcase repacking to avoid a £60 excess luggage cost for a few kilograms of excess. I am aware experiences can differ dramatically and I may regret writing positively about Ryanair one day but on this occasion, they deserve praise. Hire car for the week for a 5 door decent diesel car with cover for all problems except punctures and wing mirror damage was approx £180 with algarve rentals. I would used them again as pickup and drop off is in one of the car parks adjacent to Faro airport – and they show you how to access the spare tire (I imagine with good reason as the roads are very good but some become rather basic with little advance warning). Overall, I would recommend Parque da Floresta and the West coast of Portugal on many levels.
