We were one night at Monte da Morena Agroturismo on a week of cycling through the Alentejo. Another couple joined us but were driving a car and although this place is outside of town, the drive to Serpa was very short. My husband and I really loved this place, and the host, Therese, was great! She was helpful with our dinner plans and, as we were cycling in an unseasonal heat wave, Therese arranged for us to eat breakfast early (and a good breakfast it was!) so we could get on our bikes and leave before the heat was at its worst. The rooms were large and comfortable and the surrounding area beautiful and quiet. My husband made great use of the pool, which was very clean and refreshing (he swam at least twice during our short stay) and we used the shaded sitting area next to the pool to relax with a cool drink after a long hot bike ride. This is one place that really touched us both for its rural beauty - watching a local “sheeper” and his dog at work in the distance early in the morning was very interesting, as was learning about the surrounding crops and agricultural area. I have to mention Brio (spelling?) the black Labrador retriever dog who quickly became a canine friend - which was welcomed to us being away from our own pets! Although our stay was short, this place felt like home to us. We highly recommend staying here for a lovely rural retreat.

Highly recommend this place for people who are tired of city life. Very clean and beautiful rooms and hotel in general with nice terrace and 2 lovely dogs. The owner is very lovely, always ready to help and to everything for her guests in order to make them happy. And of course fresh air..... this you will not find in big cities

Great location for those seeking silence and rest. Accommodations exceeded expectations. The people are very welcoming and there is some freedom of choice that is not possible in big hotels (eg breakfast with regional products is served in a large table together with other guests, but if you prefer you can go to the porch on the outside) .
I loved the endless views ...
In general it was much better than expected!

I take my dog, Teddy, with me just about everywhere I go, so finding a holiday spot that would accept him is a priority. Teresa & her family & the housekeeper Custódia couldn't have been more Teddy-friendly. He had the run of the farm & was fussed over so much he didn't want to leave.

If your priority isn't your dog, but you would like a calm, relaxing break, close to amenities, but in the countryside, then I can still recommend Monte da Morena. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, there's lots & lots of hot water & closet space. In the fine weather, breakfasts are served on the terrace that overlooks the garden and the pool, as well as the views towards Beja to the west. Breakfast is local, typical & fresh. The queijadas were pronounced 'divine'.

There is wifi at the hotel, but it's not available in the rooms & the signal isn't brilliant out on the terrace. It's my only gripe - if you need to work, possibly find a bar in town instead!

Monte da Morena is a working farm. We visited during 'low' season when there's not much going on, but I would expect lots of activity in early spring and around harvest time. Serpa is best viewed on foot & slowly.

Muito obrigada Emma pelas vossas palavras . É para nós uma grande satisfação partilhar este nosso canto , no meio do Alentejo , com quem nos visita . Mostrar os cheiros e sabores da região é o nosso lema . Trabalhar aqui ? Nem pensar queremos que descansem . Se o quiser fazer o melhor é utilizar a sala onde o sinal do wifi é bom (partes comuns) . Teresa
