We stayed in a spacious suite during our visit in early September. Beds and bathroom were perfectly adequate and when the temperature reached 38C a dip in the swimming pool was very refreshing. It was a shame breakfast was so unimaginative as dinner the previous evening was delicious having focused on home grown produce and the wine was plentiful.

Room Tip: Our suite was spacious.

We spent two nights here, while visiting Marvao, and Castelo de Vide. It was a lovely retreat. Nuno was a fine host, preparing a roaring fire for us in a charming living room filled with beautiful antiques. The food was adequate the wine was fine and the setting was just great, unless of course you were thinking of downtown. The value for dollar was excellent.

We stayed in this place for only 1 night. The surroundings are nice, after driving ~1km in a dificult dirt road, you get to a property "away from it all", with a pool (to be used in the summer) and some hiking tracks around. The main building has a small but nice area for guests to sit around, but as some other reviewers mentioned, this area cannot fit all the guests, so you have to wait for breakfast, etc, so that other guests finish theirs...
Breakfast is horrible: sunday morning all they had was old bread (plain white bread, not even alentejo bread), 2 types of good jam and butter. The "coffee" was lukewarm milk with powder "nescafe". One of the worse breakfasts i ever had, and for sure the worst in alentejo.

The room where we stayed was large and had heating (was 8 degrees the day we stayed over). However, the beds are not confortable (matress is not straight, had too much use or was simply of bad quality) and, worse, the bathroom is tiny and in urgent need of renovation. The shower is ridiculous: rusty, small, unpleasent. for that fact alone i would not be able to stay in this place longer than 1-2 nights.

I will not visit this place again, and i would not recommend it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Located in the heart of São Mamede Natural Park, Quinta da Dourada is a privileged place for nature lovers. With the nearest road at about 1 km away, Nuno Malato Correia is glad to share with you a place “where silence makes time stop”. In the soft lulling of the end of the afternoon breeze, besides the cheerful chant of the birds and the waving of the lime-treeleaves, a tree with more than 300 years old, you won’t hear anything else. If you want to understand the emotion Nuno feels for this special place, ask him the reason for the oxblood colour which gives soul to Dourada. Just try not to mention football, because he is completely “fanatical” about SL Benfica and the conversation may end up badly ... more   less
