I was happy staying there. The woman at the counter when I arrived didn't speak English but for checking in I didn't need it. When a light in the room didn't work, cage owner immediately came to fix it. He spoke some English and was never far when needed.
Baggage storage was no problem.
The owner was also helpful by helping take my bag down and calling a cab for me when checking out.
Great value for a decent night's stay.

The hotel is in a wonderful location for visiting Evora, just a short walk from the Praca do Giraldo. We visited in the off-season, so perhaps the staff wasn't ready for us. The hotel seemed strangely deserted, although the proprietor told me there were 3 or 4 other rooms occupied. I wasn't surprised that we saw no other guests, but was surprised that we didn't see any staff most of the time.

The hotel is up a steep flight of stairs from the street, so I wouldn't recommend it to elderly or disabled guests. The room was dim and clammy; the lighting inadequate, and it never seemed to get warm (I acknowledge that this region is not one normally visited in January!), but we are the type who spends little time at the hotel other than for sleeping.

The beds were a bit lumpy, but not uncomfortable.

The hotel is reasonably priced, given its location.

I reserved 2 rooms in the morning, talking on the phone with the manager. He asked my mobile number. We arrived there at 1 pm and ... SURPRISE! There was only one room for my reservation -a family of 5. The woman at the reception was only-portuguese speaker and she wasn't skilled at all in managing the hotel. The manager arrived at the hotel late in the afternoon and he said that a second room was no more available because a on-line reservation arrived in the morning, some minutes after my call, and he couldn't refuse to that. He said he forgot to call me. The filled up the room with extra beds. BAD experience.

I am puzzled by some of the other reviews. The place is clean, and the traditional furniture and fittings are very nice. But: We did not meet anyone who seemed or behaved like an owner. The lady receptionist we met on arrival could not speak one word in English. Our room was extremely small, not really suited to two persons. The bed was ok but the only other item of furniture in the room was a glass top wrought iron table which we had to decide whether to use as a table or as a rack for our bigger suitcase. No coffee making facilities. One towel in the shower-toilette, one tiny bar of soap (for 2 p). In the evening, the lights in the upper floor corridor were lit only after we asked the man in the reception office to switch them on. The door to the street was kept open all the time, which is fine if someone keeps an eye on people who come in, but for a great part of the time the reception office was unattended. We booked a room with breakfast, and asked beforehand to have an early one, at 7:15. In the morning we were told the restaurant won't open before 8:00. We had to go to catch our flight, so we received a refund and an apology but left for Lisbon without coffee. We are not spoiled; we are both 65 and used to all sorts of conditions, but this experience in Os Manueis was definitely a first, and not in a good sense.

Room Tip: The only tip I can give is, don't take room 24 unless you are young, single and travel with only...

Fantastic place. The rooms are clean and good. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect. Near the historic centre with resturants and cafés near. Parking is outside the city walls, but it´s easy to go to the hotel by foot.
No elevador and the stairs are hard to climb with the lugage.
WIll be back.

The owners are two brothers who clearly enjoy guests and like to talk about their country and what it has to offer. the location is excellent in the heart of the old city; but on a main medieval drag so you can drive your car in to drop off the bags. We we re directed to free parking outside the gates which was workable. We had the suite and it was a bargain at 55 euro per. it looked over the street and was noisy but that is the trade off if you want the view. The marble stairs up to the hotel were steep; but out hosts insisted in carrying the bags up and down for us so it was not a problem. Our only criticism was the hard mattress; but the spacious room, great location and lovely hosts more than made up for it.

The hotel is in a great spot for walking to the center of all the attractions. Staff are very friendly and helpful. However, if you have trouble with stairs, its a steep climb from the street to the hotel with no elevator. Parking is down the street outside the city walls but was a quick walk back. Light sleepers should stay on the backside if possible. Overall, great hotel that we would certainly stay at again.
