Pensao Residencial Policarpo
Ranked #20 of 26 Hotels in Evora
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Advantages:
Very convenient location within Evora, free parking included, pensao is located in truely historic building with some modern features, traditional decor, free wi-fi working well (although not whole building coverage), breakfast ok, staff flexible (we needed to cancel last minute one night and there was no problems or extra charges), overall - good value for money.

Disadvantages:
Shared bathrooms are not in the best condition - it is visible that they are cleaned systematically but there is a strong smell of mushroom in them, also showers does not look extremely well. Our room which was booked as double was in face two single beds put together which was not comfortable. No credit cards accepted.

Summary - good budget proposition in the interesting place.

Room Tip: If you can - book a room with a private bathroom.

The building is very nice. Its a nice example of old traditional architecture.
its in the core of the city center
The price is very good acording to the quality of the rooms and service. Also the breakfast included is very good with plenty of different food.

The ratio quality-price is definetly very good. Im very happy to have choosen this place.

Great location, great staff, cool old building, hearty breakfast, superb value. It is pretty rustic, so if you want the Holiday Inn, Evora has one. Since you go to Evora for the history and good food, why not stay in a place that is a part of that tradition? The bed wasn't the best, but the room was clean. The hotel will rent you a bike and it was a fun way to see the megalithic sites. You are a one minute walk from the cathedral and Roman ruins. Also, all of the staff were incredibly informative and friendly.

We stayed in a triple room at Pensao Residencial Policarpo for two nights in April 2013. The building is very well located, within a 5 minute walk of the cathedral and a 15 minute walk the main square. There is a very small parking area attached to the hotel which is locked in the evenings. Please bear in mind that the cars are packed very tightly in the lot, so if you need to leave during the night or early in the morning (as we did) you are better off parking on the streets.

The building is an incredible, historic building but with generally modern facilities. Our room featured an ensuite bathroom that was in decent condition. There were three beds and ample space. Furniture was all unique and (I believe) hand carved. Beds were fairly comfortable.

The breakfast was very good. Breads, coffee, juice, cheese, fruits, etc. There is a nice indoor dining area and a balcony with a great view of the town and surrounding countryside.

In all, I would recommend this place as it is a great value for a great location.

Very neat and tidy room with good internet access in the common area. The private bath was a bit tight and a step up but more than adequate for our needs. They also offer a nice breakfast. With the narrow cobbled streets of this old walled city, free parking in a secured courtyard at the rear of the building ws a welcome relief. we were able to leave the car and walk to main square, shopping district, flea market, bone chapel, cathedral and other attractions. I would not attempt to drive in this town. In the evening we took a cab to a very nice restaurant for dinner. Cabs are readily available and manage the narrow roads with great finess.

Room Tip: Don't attempt to drive in Evora. Leave your car and walk or take a cab. Having a secured parking...

This is a great pension. As per the previous comments regarding various levels and types of accommodations, our room was perfect. Spacious with a very comfortable bed large windows private bath and in the center of Evora. You cannot ask for more. The staff is eager to assist you regarding restaurant recommendations and they are multi lingual. The building does ooze with 15th or 16th century history and is a well maintained little gem.

We just loved this place! It is a beguiling, charming pensione in a very old building which has been adapted for use as a pensione and with a wonderful atmosphere. The house rambles over various levels and offers three types of accommodation a) bedrooms with en-suite b) bedrooms with private shower but shared toilet facilities c) Rooms with shared bathrooms and toilets. The prices vary depending on which one you choose!

We had a room with an en-suite bathroom (#104) and it was just lovely with hand-painted wooden furniture and bedheads, comfortable beds, a small but perfectly adequate bathroom, two nice windows with lovely views over the rooftops. There was air conditioning in the room and we also had WiFi connection in the room. Bonus! The windows were double glazed and so we had no noise from the street at all. I peeped into several other rooms and they were all delightful and individually decorated with lovely painted furniture.

The pensione serves a simple but very adequate breakfast in a light and airy breakfast room/bar (or you can sit on the terrace if you wish). There is a guest lounge with TV if that appeals and WiFi is available in the public rooms.

The parking provided by the pensione was much appreciated even though it could get a bit tight if the place is full. Get there early like we did and you will find a place! You have to lug your bags up a flight of stairs but we were helped by David, the most affable and helpful owner. Having a parking spot inside the walls of this small town is truly to be prized because the streets are very narrow and the parking is almost non-existent.

We really appreciated the atmosphere of this pensione with its eclectic angles and surprises (Roman column in Reception, vaulted ceiling in breakfast room, tiny sitting rooms with lamps and even a telephone box) , different kinds of flooring, its collection of locally done paintings on the walls, the friendliness of the people in Reception and its excellent position just a few minutes from the Temple of Diana, the Cathedral and the main square.
