Sorry that this review is so late. I visited Evora last July and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Pousada is right at the heart of the historic City with a great buzz. Food at the hotel is great and authentic...eating in the cloisters only adds to the experience. We had a room off the cloisters in an old "cell"; very atmospheric and cool.
If you've never tried a historic Pousada, this is the place to start

Room Tip: I think I'd chose a room on the 1st floor; less atmospheric, but more practical

I have a bias for staying in historical locations, so I love the Pousadas in Portugal and the Paradores in Spain. Pousada dos Lóios in Évora is among the top sites I've visited in many years of travels across Iberia. The convent is in excellent condition and has been masterfully retrofitted as a hotel.

The location is stunning: outside the door is the Roman temple, and next door is the Church of St John Evangelist (São João Evangelista), with gorgeous azulejos.

The staff was predictably accommodating and efficient in check-in, dining, check-out, but they really shone when I had a problem with my rental car. They made phone calls and literally walked me to the place I needed to go in town to solve the problem.

We had one dinner in the restaurant (in the cloister of the convent), and it was excellent. The breakfast was unusually varied and delicious, with the best hotel coffee I've had in Portugal.

I think this is usually one of the pricier Pousadas, but I got a good deal online, so the history and haute Alentejo cuisine turned out to be a great value.

Room Tip: We stayed in "cell" 204, the last one on the top floor hallway. It seemed to be bigger tha...

This pousada was special. From our arrival when a staff parked our car for us, we enjoyed our stay. Our room (for 4 people) was really 3 rooms plus an interesting "space" between the 3 rooms. Both the sleeping areas had French windows that opened onto this interior space, that let in natural light. We had a clawfoot tub in a big bathroom. The sitting room had a beautiful painted ceiling. Linens felt upscale. I doubt the monks had it this good when they lived there.
Breakfast was great. Beautiful public spaces. The Roman ruins across the street add ambiance.

Dear Guest,

It was our pleasure to read your review of the Pousada and we are very appreciated.

I agree with you when you say that the monks on those days did not have the luxury of your Presidential Suite.

And in terms of location, being in front of the Roman Temple is for us a privilege.

We do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you once again in our Pousada.

Kind regards,
André Freire

The service and the location of this hotel was excellent. We also liked the fact that the front desk would help park our car. The fact that the hotel was historic gave it an extra plus. I highly recommend this hotel if in the area.

My wife and I stayed in a modestly furnished but large suite but it suffered from the dimmest lights I've ever encountered in a hotel. Our friends encountered the same in their room. This made reading in bed a laughable endeavor and my wife's attempt to put on her makeup virtually impossible. Nevertheless, the staff couldn't have been nicer and made an excellent recommendation for dinner - Luar de Janeiro.

We arrived in Evora by bus, and chose to walk to the pousada... I'd recommend a taxi, the stand is right at the bus depot, and costs under 5 Euros, worth it. The reception experience was so very nice,a treat. We stayed in Cell 115, perfect temperature, comfortable beds and linens. With the pousada's history, I'd expected it to be sparse, but it was lovely! A soak in the deep tub, with the Laura Kayal toiletries....mmm..relaxing after busy sight-seeing. Then to walk just outside the door, and see the ancient Roman ruins! Being able to go to Evora, a walled city, with UNESCO designation, only a couple of hours by bus from the Algarve, or one hour from Lisbon, was a wonderful experience. Staying right at the pousada made it more special. Thank you very kindly!

Indeed the Pousada has a unique location just in front of the Roman Temple in downtown Évora. And after a day walking and sight-seeing our bathtubs seem very relaxing.

We benefited from a very attractive Valentine weekend deal and stayed 2 nights at Dos Loios Pousada. Beautiful historic place, centrally located in this fascinating UNESCO City. The Suite we stayed in was very comfortable , although we missed direct outside views . Food , both breakfast & Dinner is good , like service.Ample parking space.

Room Tip: If you book a suite ask for one with windows with a view.
