a very strange place, just a chappel if not that all walls are lined with human bones, some 200 years ago "shopped" by the munks on a local cimitary. macabre indeed.
Small cathedral where the highlight is the chapel built out of bones from 5,000 monks not much else to see in this church.
At first blush the chapel looks very symmetrical and eye catching but when one looks closer you see the numerous skulls and bones embedded in the walks and ceiling. Yup in the 16th century the local graveyard was overflowing so the monks came up with this macabre idea to remind people of the temporal nature of life on earth ....
Cave made with bones and skulls in the center of lovely Evora, for sure not for little ones, may depress you somehow, but it is unusual place. You need 15 minutes to see everything
This was a very strange experience seeing all of the bones and skulls looking back at you
There were also 2 mummified bodies in glass cases
