Owner description: The walls and pillars of the chapel, built in the century. XVII, are lined with thousands of human bones and skulls. Ceilings with murals realtivas death. Written on a plaque next to the door, the phrase "We bones that are here for your hope", reminds us how fleeting passage through life

“A must see”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

This really is impressive but a bit morbid. It was fascinating to read the history and see this chapel. This is a must see while in Evora.

“A little unnerving but worth the time.”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

We went with a guide (Maria José Gomes Pires) who breathed life into the visit for us because she talked about why the Chapel was built, who these people were and why their remains formed the walls and the ceiling. We came to understand that the Chapel was built with the best of intentions. If you can get by (my wife couldn't) the fact that it is covered with human bones it is actually an appealing architectural design.

“Really impressive!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

If you don't like death and bones... Don't go there!
It is a unique place, you can watch the walls made of bones for hours. The small chapel is now preserved for stupid that wrote on the skulls and deserves to be visited!

“These bones wait for yours”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

An interesting and possibly thought provoking visit is fairly assured. It won't take you long and it doesn't cost much, but it certainly is different.

“Hard to See But a Must See”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

A most difficult place to see but study the history and the reasons behind this chapel and try to understand why the monks had this chapel. One of the most amazing things ever especially in a church setting. Very surprising the reaction of the others seeing this chapel.
