Owner description: The walls and pillars of the chapel, built in the century. XVII, are lined with thousands of human bones and skulls. Ceilings with murals realtivas death. Written on a plaque next to the door, the phrase "We bones that are here for your hope", reminds us how fleeting passage through life

The Chapel of Bones really is covered in bones, but it was just one large room. It's interesting that someone decided to dig up graves to decorate it, and it feels eerie being there with so many bones. But I guess my expectations were too high after visiting the ossuary in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. We drove about an hour out of the way to visit Evora to see the Chapel of Bones, and it just wasn't as cool as I had hoped.

The Chapel of Bones is part of the larger Royal Church of St. Francis and was constructed by Franciscan monks in the late 16th century. The walls of this macabre chapel are lined with the bones of thousands of nuns and monks laid out in intricate patterns.
Charged to take pictures, 2 euro entrance fee .Not to be missed, lot of dark humor.

Exactly what it says. It's architecturally stunning and you'll have to go many many miles to find anything similar.

Little chapel covered with human bones (creepy but interesting) near Carmo Church. 10 minute walk from Hostel Casa d'Alagoa. Must see!

Impressive catacomb. Not to be missed. A lot of dark humor on the script of the arch at the entrance of the chapel
