We had two lovely nights at this place in the beginning of our Portugal trip. The whole house and the rooms are very cosy and beautiful. Everything was super clean as well!

At arrival we directly received useful information about trips, restaurants and activities in the surrounding areas. Helpful staff and owners. One of the best breakfasts we have had in a b&b/hotel ever!

We can absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants a unique and peaceful holiday out in the countryside - both to couples and families with kids!

A magical place! We arrived in Lisbon and less than two hours later, we were in the beautiful city of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Centre that is the capital of the Alentejo region of Portugal. We had visited this town once before, during a chilly Christmas time, and now we were seeing it in the full and riotous bloom of late spring/early summer. Baby goats and sheep, abundant purple and yellow blossoms, and budding olive and nut trees everywhere! And where better to enjoy them all than in the rural setting of Monte do Serrado do Baixo, a truly delightful and tranquil retreat about 10 minutes outside of town. By calling and texting owner/manager Teresa, we were able to navigate our way to this pretty place in no time at all!

Although our stay in the authentically renovated Monte do Serrado was brief, it was memorable and fun. The inn, itself, is perfect for people who have cars and don't need to be right in the middle of town. It is an easy trip to Évora and extremely rewarding (passing under the huge arches of the Roman aqueduct is, in and of itself, a rather breath-taking experience). I will say that Evora is quieter than I remember it, but it is a great walking town, and an excellent place to purchase regional products (in fact, I recommend it for cork products, such as purses and caps), including wines and cheeses and fabrics.

On the other hand, it is easy to just hang at Monte do Serrado and bask in the sunshine or explore (oddly enough, there is a classic car collection on the property!). Just steps away from the inn is part of the aqueduct with a narrow hiking trail flanking it, making a nice and scenic little hike. There is also a lounge with games and reading materials, and where Teresa welcomes you with a glass of local wine. Teresa also coordinates cycling and kayaking excursions. And, although we had dinner in town, other patrons highly commended their meal at Monte do Serrado, and we can speak to a really lovely breakfast that got us ready for our drive to the nearby fortress town of Elvas (another great place to buy linens!)

Our room was charming and had everything we needed. The only thing wrong? We had to leave! But there is no doubt we will return to the Alentejo and to Monte do Serrado de Baixo!

Really enjoyed our stay there. Rooms were pleasant and the food was outstanding. Teresa and her team go out of their way to make you feel at home. Would have preferred to be withing walking distance of Evora but taxi service was efficient and reasonable at 10 euros for the 4 of us

Compliments! Everything was well organized, the accomodation was really ok. It was a great stay at the farm closed to Evora with guided cycling tours, nice dinners and a lot of fun. Thank's to Teresa and the whole team.

We stayed here in March 2013. The weather was very bad with lots of rain...Our room was very cold and humid, making the blancets and sheets were wet ! The heating was insufficient... The misture even run from the walls!! Very unpleasent and unhealthy!
We would not recommend this b&b, 80 euros per night for sleeping in a wet bed and a cold room ?

Dear guest

First of all, I am very sorry you had such an unpleasant experience. Your enjoyment is the most important to us and, not being able to fulfill that leaves us quite frustrated.

If any problem arises it is very important that you report us immediately so we can solve it in time. There was a better room available for you on that night, but it had two beds and you wanted a double bed. If you would have told me about the problem I would have changed you to that room. You would not get the double room, but I’m sure you would have not left so unhappy about us either. Changing the sheets would also be a simple solution, though of course they should not be dump to begin with, and I already talked to the responsible person about it.

And I was very surprised you didn’t talk about this problem to me when I met you at breakfast either, when we could have tried to compensate you somehow.

It hasn’t rained so much for 40 years! And our B&B, a traditional country house from the south, just could not handle as much. I think you meant you had moisture on the walls of the dining room. We are already fixing it in order to prevent it from happening again in the future. But the works can´t start before the rains stop. We are changing the entire roof.

If our service was bad we would simply have to close the house until the works are done, but we get good reports from our customers every week and we have been managing to have happy guest through all this terrible winter, so we are staying open.

Once more, sorry for these inconveniences.

My best regards,

Teresa Vilas Boas

In our two week trip to Portugal we stayed at many wonderful places but Monte do Serrado was my favourite. The house is wonderful and full of character. The walk in fireplace is amazing. The setting on the farm complete with sheep and friendly donkey is idyllic. The staff - Luis especially but also Manuela, Teresa, and the Moldavian lady whose name I can't remember were all so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast were delicious. Being able to rent bicycles was a bonus.
