“Don't miss this!”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

Finding this fascinating ancient site is a bit of a challenge but so worth the effort. Hard to believe that ancient peoples hauled these huge stones to this site - 2,000 years before Stonehenge was created.

“Almendres Cromlech”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

Wow! This is another must see while in the Evora area. Its about 20 to 30 minutes outside of town but I would highly recommend it. We only visited the one main stone structure but were thoroughly impressed. We had a rental car and didn't have any trouble locating it with our gps. It is down a long dirt road which is surrounded by cork trees. The drive is lovely. It was a foggy day and when we walked up seeing the stones surrounded in mist was surreal. These stone structures predate Stonehenge and are over 2,000 years old!

“Very different than Stonehenge, but interesting”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

Almost hidden down a dirt road, in a beautiful cork grove, the large stones are intriguing and worth the stop. Because it was raining, we didn't see the first lone stone, but did enjoy wandering the second groups of 95 stones.

“A wonder”

Accessible by car but the sandy track can get a bit rough after heavy rain.

Great experience, well worth a visit

“Well worth the drive down the dirt road”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

You have to drive a little ways out of town and for a couple miles down a dirt road, but we were glad we did. This structure is not quite as tall as Stonehenge, but it's also much older, and a sight to see this ancient arrangement of standing stones, some of which have carvings in them. Unlike Stonehenge, you can walk in and around these stones. As a bonus, the clearing is surrounded by cork trees. We had been curious to see what cork looked like on the tree, and here we can a chance to see up close and touch. They are interesting to see, and have a certain beauty to them.
