ok, it was a holiday and most restaurants were closed, the ones which were open were extra busy

BUT

the appetizers of mushrooms/sausage were the highlight of the meal - pork dinner for 2 had strawberries/bananas/pineapple (interesting combination) but the pork was over cooked and dry

worst was the cigarette smoke which wafted over from the smoking 'section' - some imaginary line which divides the room in half - guessing 60 seats in the place, when 1/2 are smokers, you can imagine the rest

OK but only if you are a Marlborough fan

...Taking photos with flashlight mobile phones.
But here the list of con's is at it's end.
The food, the service, the location, everything is perfect.
The Chef even gave us the honor to serve some plates personaly.
We asked often for recommandations, that were given friendly and were exactly the things we searched - specialities of the region in a wonderful quality.
Starters: cold rabbit, a buttery cheese and grilled mushrooms with a portuguese sausage - everything was among the best in it's league - and we had a lot during two weeks, up's and downs.
As a maincourse we spotted lamp but the waiter pointed out a young goat - thanks for that, fantastic meat and great workmanship - couldn't do it better with modern sous vide technic (!!).
For desert we asked for more recommendations and had a heavenly almond desert with a very good digestive served in a warm cognac glas - unfortunately I missed the name.
Me and my girlfriend were in heaven and paid 90 Euro (including two bottles of wine) with pleasure!
Oh yes, the wine: very impressive lista da vinjo and my own pick of white wine from Alentejo that surprisingly was the best that we had on the whole journey even compared to more expensive bottles:
"Explicit" for 21 Euros, scoring 94/100 (!!)

The food was excellent but the service was slow. The three of us enjoyed our lamb, black pork, and salmon with shrimp. However, we waited about 40 minutes for our meal to arrive. Also, we asked for a non-smoking table but the smoking section was just 10 feet away. While Portugal still permits smoking in restaurants it would be nice if the sections were better separated.

I think this may be the most stylish restaurant I've ever been to in Portugal! Great food - with a couple of vegetarian options (in Portugal!!), lovely wine: we had Templo, seemed appropriate. The service was excellent. The chef/owner Don Joaquim himself came to check everything was fine and was thrilled that we thought his restaurant stylish. Highly recommended
