There's a reason this place is ranked number one!
This place doesn't take reservations so we were lucky to get a table! Judging by how the kitchen closed by 9.30pm I think that usually these lucky to get in are the only ones who will get served that night, so come early - people start lining up about 20 minutes before the place opens, so maybe get there around 6.45.
We've had a stake which was the best stake I've had outside of Argentina - even better than what I've had in STK! It simply melts in your mouth. We've also had a local egg/cod dish which was amazing - very unusual but perfectly balanced.
The atmosphere is great to, all sitting is around the bar so you are likely to end up talking to these sitting next to you as we did, so all in all in feels like you're in a kitchen of someone you know!
Highly recommended, one of the best meals in Portugal!

“Great fun and good food”

Can only add to what predecessors have said; only 10 folks when we dined - us 2 Brits, 2 x 2 Italiano, 2 Dutch and 2 Norwegians. We all knew each other by meal end, and Domingos and his wife were extremely hospitable. Best veal steak eaten in 20 years....

“What can we add to what has already been said.....you have to go and experience it for yourselves.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2014

A unique place, unique host and a unique experience. We followed the advice of other trip advisor contributors and arrived early, we were the first in the queue, which was just as well because for a Wednesday night ten mins later the queue was larger than the ten seats available! We sat next to a French couple and had a ball, the food was good, and the service from the owner was intimate. My husband had a steak which he said was one of the best he has every had, I had costelatas de borrego (lamb chops) which were nice. But the real delight of the place is it's intimate, but unpretentious quirky setting. It is a pure delight in a town where there are so many restaurants to find something so unique.

“Stunning”

We followed the reco from Tripadvisor and ended up in this small, super cozy place. The owners are amazingly nice (they do not speak english, but it is not a problem at all). We had amazing food (cod fish home recipe & a pork steak) with great wine. definitely one of the best dishes, we had in Portugal
