My husband and I went here .. I really liked the cozy (only sits 11/12) place as it lends to more of a family / able to chat with others and the owners. It was full by 8 pm and several diners (most looked local) came in and out wanting a spot. We had a cheese appetizer, brave eggs w/asparagus, and a steak and it was perfect amount for the two of us. The owner takes pictures of those who come in that night and then posts them on the slideshow the next day there in the bar - be ready with your smile! I got a kick out of that - where else does that? :) definitely a neat and laid back experience.

I and my husband went to this little restaurant only due to the reviews in tripadvisor. Well, it certainly didn't disappoint us! The restaurant / snack-bar is really small, but the decoration is very cozy and typical.
Sr. Domingos is a very friendly host and the food was delicious! We split 3 starters: scrambled eggs with asparagus, melted cheese with oreganos and mushrooms and then a hearty fish soup (the fish was really fresh and tasty). As a dessert we had a "queijada" and a chick-peas cake. Great meal for 50€. It was totally worth it!
We were the only customers for around 30 minutes, but then around 13:30 another couple has arrived and a bit later more 3 customers. It was a Saturday, so I guess people were more interested in doing the Christmas shopping.

A tiny little restaurant, no reservations can be made and when the Owner Domingos thinks it's enough for the night, he just closes the door. We had some nice tapas and a good glass of wine. Try the pimentos and the grilled mushrooms. Delicious!

We had dinner at the Botequim do Mouraria while visiting Evora and loved it. It was off season and there was a big football match that night so we ended up the only patrons for dinner. The food was fantastic and we had a fun time chatting with Domingos, the owner.

This little restaurant has a lot going for it: the owner Domingos does not take reservations - he does not need to.

The entire principle is one of doing something well and on an intimate, manageable scale. The dozen or so stools at the bar fill up, and when they are full, new arrivals are politely told how long they are likely to have to wait.

It’s no-nonsense fare, but nicely served and immaculately cooked, and the overall ambience is a sheer delight. Our own experience is, I am sure, replicated night after night as the customers interact with each other and with the jovial owner and his wife Florbela (she was blushingly brought out from the kitchen for a photo-op) and eat heartily and sup from an impressive collection of wines.

I was left with a powerful sensation (just as in another restaurant in Evora reviewed elsewhere) of how utterly disastrous it would be if some banker or venture capitalist were to walk in one evening, taste the steak or the lamb chops and the heady atmosphere, and tempt the proprietor to expand.

Small gems like this are best left unfiddled-with. Sometimes “ambition” is the death of us.

Recommended.
