Rodrigo’s apartment in Estremoz was perfect for us! We needed a break from the big city life; the apartment was dark but there was a bright sunny private deck with a view.. The apartment is inside the castle walls but right at the western edge, a short (but steep) three block walk from the newer downtown. The people of Estremoz were friendly, the market on Saturday was phenomenal (fresh farm food, flea market, crafts), and the town is safe and a fun walk. We even went to a bullfight. Rodrigo was the perfect host, always responding quickly in perfect English. Obrigado.
I had my hopes high after reading other reviews and this place did not dissapoint! We were two adults and two kids, 9 and 6, and we loved our stay! The location would have made a perfect base for exploring the region, but we only stayed 2 nights. It was certainly not enough time. We were in the smaller of the two apartments. It was very cosy, nicely decorated and had lots of character! The terrace had a great view. We parked the rental car for free just outside the castle wall, probably less than a 100 meters away. I would suggest arriving before dark if possible, particularly if driving, or at least having a good idea of where you're going. I relied on the GPS, but it could not locate the exact address inside the castle walls. The streets leading into the castle are narrow, and trying to find your way for the first time can get frustrating. I ended up walking into the pousada and asking the staff for directions. Thankfully, they were very nice and helpful (we returned the next day to go up the tower). Felt like an idiot, since the apartment turned out to be just around the corner. The keys were waiting for us in a box, which was really convenient. In the end we wished we had more time to just enjoy the terrace and the apartment; it was a truly memorable experience.
