“GREAT STOP OVER, LITTLE OUT OF THE BUSY TOWN”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

Real character property if a little "past it best", staff very friendly & the location is very quiet, good value for money, breakfast was good & dinner also, if a little pricey. Ideal location to viist the wonderful town of Elvas or as a stop over going South or North.

Room Tip: You are asked if you want a double or twin room, ask for garden view, great!

We just loved our stay and regret that we could not stay more than one night. The place is heavenly and the staff do all they can to make you feel happy and comfortable there. We had dinner in front of the fireplace (special courtesy of Pedro, our young and competent waiter) and it was marvellous, both for the excellency of the food as for the service and romantic setting. After departure, we thought we had forgotten a cherished necklace in the room and they made all efforts to find it. Some days later, we found it inside a shoe, much to the relief of the Quinta's staff and our happiness. We are very thankful for their goodwill and kindness to us. We surely plan to return!

In march 2012 we have been staying 2 nights in this hotel.
Nice place to stay - beautifull gardens.
But Because of the period of the year, we were the only guests... a bit lonely.
For the first breakfast we had to ask everything: butter, jam, sugar...
But the second morning: the breakfast buffet was installed!
Diner was OK...but again... we were the only guests... so we missed to cosy aspect!

We discovered quinta de santo antonio about 16 years ago. For us, after all these years, it is a place of rest, friendship, beauty! The gardens are beautifull and well kept, the swimming pool is lovely, the rooms nice, clean, charming! The staff is helpfull. But more over we find there friendship, nice people, rest, good food. The two sisters, (owners) do everything to please the clients. When our children were small, they enjoyed the environment and found other (portuguese) friends. (We are Belgian). And now that they are grown up adults, they wouldn't miss a vacation at the quinta. I really do not understand the negative comments... Come and see and judge. The price is amazing for what you get, in positive sense of course! For us the quinta is a dream, um sonho. Or as the portuguese say: a little bit my home, a minha terra!!

Room Tip: The rooms in the mother building have a little bit more charm. The others in the annex, are almost a...

This place has obviously seen better days: it was a 5* Estalagem (not to be mixed with 5* Hotel!!) and is now a (4*) Tourismo Rural. Don't mix with Quinta de Santo António de Adorigo in the Douro valley area!!

When we arrived we missed a clear "reception" sign from the parking, the receptionist showed us our room which was in the old part: very nice and romantic even a bit worn and oldfashioned, the matress was excellent (good night sleep!).

The pool was dirty with sand, works ongoing nearby were noisy, the beautiful garden would need some urgent repairs as well as the rooms/house need. We had breakfast which was actually better than expected (choice of fruits, ham etc.!)

All in all I'd recommend this place if it was in a bit better condition.

Note that it's located in a quiet place ca. 15km outside of Elvas!

Room Tip: old wing rooms are more romantic

The hotel welcome was very good. We were encouraged to explore this lovely house and fabulous gardens. Although too early for the pool to be in use a wine on the trerrace was most welcome (trying to pretend we were lord and lady of the manor). Every room was worth exploring. The breakfast was good. We ate in the restaurant at night which was a little pricey for what it was but the service was excellent. The bedroom had an old fashioned charm and although the bathroom could do with a little updating I would certainly stay there again and encourage others to do so. Plenty of parking around and fabulous views of the surrounding country side

This Quinta is working hard to renovate and bring maintenance up to standards but it is a large and elderly estate and will take some time. However the feeling of comfort and welcome achieved by a mix of antique, (and 30's, 40's and 50's) period furnishings, a huge, huge wood fire burning all the time in the cosy bar, scented candles and higgledy piggledy rooms makes it an experience worth savouring in spite of some of the run down facilities. The gardens are lovely and the whole setting and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff make it an experience more like being a guest in a country house than in a hotel.
The buffet breakfast is nothing special but quite adequate. We didn't eat in the restaurant but did have wine and snacks in the bar which were good.
Wifi was free and available in the rooms. Lots of space for parking(free). An easy drive out of Elvas which is itself a very interesting historical town.

Room Tip: Go for rooms in the house itself and not in the outbuildings if you want the atmosphere.
