“A small castle, a bit unattended”

This is a small castle on the outskirts of the old town of Beja. The town itslelf is "average" from a tourist persepctive. There are much nicer small town in the country and MUCH nice castle to visit. Still, if you are travelling south to Algarve, do stop here either for one night rest to stroll the streets or drop over for a coffee. The city and the castle can be fully visited in 2-3 hours.

Dropped in on the way to Evora on June 20, 2012 on a family vacation. Our 6 year old granddaughter loved it. Rather sparse but interesting none-the-less. Not crowded. Short walk to Convento de Nossa Senhora da Conceicao which is also a regional museum. Probably the most informative small to mid-size museum we visited. Read up on the Convent's history and lore before visiting; makes the visit more interesting! (But don't read it out loud with kids present.)
As for visiting the Castle, the best parking is right next to the castle on Rua da Guia. Restrooms at the castle are clean and well maintained. Beja is a nice, traditional Portugese town and worth the visit.

I liked that it was not crowded and easy to find as Beja is a small town with charm

Spent the day in Beja on 9th June 2012. Very warm and very pleasant. The local University was having its Graduation and the event added colour to an already very scenic City

As poor as the city itself.
Make sure you visit Serpa.
