I have eaten here several times recently and always really enjoyed the meal, but the special menu for the 'Asian Tapas' evening was just superb, definately one to look out for! The seared tuna was lovely, as were the tempura prawns, and the caramalised fresh pineapple with chilli and coconut icecream was great!
When not doing a special menu evening, the Escalier offers a small but ever changing evening menu and a more snacky lunchtime choice, burgers (homemade) salads, etc.

We have eaten in L'Escalier on several occasions and have only ever experienced delicious food. I would highly recommend experiencing this restaurant. The menu is changed regularly which makes eating there even more enjoyable. Very friendly staff making you feel most welcome on every occasion.

We have a house nearby, have tried several local restaurants and have eaten here 4 or 5 times now, both last year (2013) and this. In 2014 there was a change of chef and, although the last one was excellent, this one is even better and includes oriental dishes in his repertoire. We had a starter between us - prawns in fine noodles, then strips of spiced, marinated beef with soy sauce, a huge bowl of beautifully crisp, fine chips and salad. My wife had cod in an oriental sauce, which she said was delicious. The starter, two main courses and drinks cost €47; considering the quality of the food, this is very good value.

L'Escalier is in the corner of the town square in Verteillac and well worth a visit. It's not a huge restaurant, and on the face of its, quite simple, but the service, attention to detail, friendliness, ambiance and food quality is second to none. There are a few tables outside and the layout inside overlooks the kitchen with the chef at work. The manageress is Dutch, so speaks excellent everything; Charlotte, our waitress last year, has been stolen by Beaux Villages, over the road, but is still around.

Go there - you won't be disappointed.

Our hostess was welcoming, the food interesting and very good. The menu was short but still offered a range of exciting possibilities. We sat outside on a warm summer evening and had a superb meal. The service, in English, was impeccable and fun. We will return next time we are in the area.
