We have been travelling to Jamaica and staying at the Shafston Greathouse for 5 years now. If you are looking for a relaxing laid back experience and peace and quiet - this is your destination! The southwest shore of Jamaica is wonderfully non-tourist and gives you an opportunity to meet many of the friendly and colorful locals. The beaches are almost deserted and local restaurants serve delicious local cuisine.
Frank is a great host and has a multitude of hilarious stories about his experiences in Jamaica. The accomodations are spacious and clean and I've always enjoyed the local dishes that are prepared. There is no air conditioning, but the evening breeze (you are 1200 ft up the side of a mountain) cools everything off.
If you are looking to be waited on hand and foot though - go to one of the five stars - where they serve the same food day in and out - and you can wait in line for drink service. My family prefers the relaxed atmosphere of Shafston!More
