“A very special place for birdwatchers”

Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park
Ranked #4 of 11 things to do in Fang City

Very quiet in May due to the remote access and lack of comfortable accomodation (only tents provided by the National Park), this is an excellent place to spot Northern mountain birds.

If you can handle climbing steep and narrow roads in a 4x4, this place will reward you with a great birds list and cool settings for photography.

Make sure you start going down not earlier than 5pm and you'll get an amazing sunset view!

At the park's headquarters -down in Fang- there are some cool hotsprings, camping ground and restaurants... It get real crowded on holidays and weekends... Nice spot.

Pha Hom Pok is the second highest mountain in Thailand. It offers half day trekking opportunity to its summit (2,285m). The forest is so beautiful, similar to An kar trail of Doi Inthanon, but much bigger.

I and my husband 've been there on last Dec. We arrived at its headquarters at Fang Hot spring in the afternoon, and the staffs there arranged everything for us (finding a 4w truck with driver, other group to join, accommodation), very helpful peoples. From the headquarter, it took 1.5 hr to the campsite (2000 m above sea level) where we made our tent (but you can rent some from the National Park). At 3 A.M.,we woke up and join other people to the summit spending 3-4 hr on very steep track and completely dark also. At 6.30, we arrived the summit, it's a real peak !!!(see my picture), very exciting and very different to Doi Inthanon's. Unfortunately, it is a misty morning, so we could not see the sun at all. About an hour after, we went back to the campsite and just realized the beauty of the surrounding forest as we could not see in the dark. Going down took us just 1.5 hr to the camp. I would recommend this place to anyone who don't mind auphill climb and love nature.
Note. No need for guide, just come up to the Fang Hot Spring.
- The 4w + driver is 1800 B (up to 8 peoples)
- Staff guide 300 B/group
