Had booked 3 nights in this hotel in March having read rave reviews about it on the internet.
Arrived on 25th June, beautiful hotel in stunning location, greeted by very nice reception staff and was shown our room. Nice, smallish, small bathroom with only a shower. I had specified when booking the hotel that we wanted a double bed and a BATH. I explained this to the girl, who apologized, admitted that it did say that on the booking reservation a bath was a requirement, but she didn't have a room with a bath for the 3 nights we had planned to stay. We decided to leave at that point as if they couldn't get the booking correct, we were not prepared to be disappointed by any more shortcomings. A shame.

Room Tip: Not sure what to say here as they ignored my request

We had a wonderful three night stay here - a complete chill out, did nothing but read, swam, slept, ate and drank.
We will definitely be going back here again, the staff were superb much better than the Kinsterna where we also stayed.
The food was excellent with specials each evening on top of the regular menu, but the highlight for us was the location right on the seafront with its own pier which was great for swimming.
The room we had was adequate, the biggest disappointment was that we only had a Jacuzzi in the bathroom - no proper shower which we missed.
The Wi-Fi was not working for the three days we were there and the locality had nothing else to offer other than this wonderful hotel.

We stayed 6 nights here in mid-June and were delighted by the whole experience. We will certainly be returning to this ultimate chill-out opportunity where we could finish several books and swim several times a day in the pristine water right in front of the hotel. The chef was very good and the staff very friendly and helpful. And we also enjoyed the quiet, which added to the relaxation! We almost hope no-one reads this review so that we can keep this hotel a secret.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Kyrimai. The hotel is outstandingly lovely, but very idiosyncratic. My accommodation was over 3 levels in the tower suite. That sounds very poetic and luxurious, but it wasn't at all. The bottom floor contained a small entrance and a bathroom with Jacuzzi; the first floor a very spartan bedroom; and the top a wardrobe to hang clothes. This was not ideal, to say the very least. If you need to get up in the middle of the night, it isn't great to have to go down a rather steep wooden staircase with no guardrail on the bottom half. On the other hand, though, it certainly was an inducement to sobriety! I definitely would not advise it for older travelers or for people with mobility issues. It's true that I was offered another room, but it too had stairs leading to the loo.The staff, though, were always charming and eager to please. Service was pleasant, though a bit erratic. And the food was really excellent. The Kyrimai is a very good hotel, and I offer these comments in the spirit of helping it to become a great one.

Dear madam,

We take the opportunity to thank you for staying in our historic hotel.
We totally understand you difficulty to stay in these types of rooms (many steps with wc at lower level).
The truth is that being a listed 1870's building some of our rooms are difficult to much today's comfort some guests might need.
However, are hotel offers a large variety of room types also in one level and much more spacious for you to chose from.
We would really like to thank you for your very kind words and we can only promise you to do our best to improve at all levels.
Thanks again for staying with us and we are looking forward to have you with us in the future.

Kind regards,

Kyrimis Alexander

Kyrimai is my latest discovery and I spotted it while searching the list of the distinguished Greek Historic hotels. It runs its venues to the highest standard and it is a Greek jewel that deservedly is on the list. It has been awarded as the Best Historic Hotel of Europe by the Water for 2013!

LOCATION: The hotel is in an exquisite and relaxed location overlooking the imposing rock of Cavo Grosso at the tip of Gerolimenas. It is perched right on the waterside and at the very end of the village in a secluded and unspoiled area at the tip of the fishing village! The region around the hotel is rocky and barren but at the same time beautiful because the area has been untouched by mass tourism.

STAFF & MANAGEMENT: Genuinely friendly and extremely courteous. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Sophia, the reception lady is doing her job well, guided us to visit sights of interest and arranged that our luggage is sent up to the suite. The young boys who are doing their training out there should take lessons from the old staff who are truly professionals. During the 3 days we spent here we felt that we were part of the family and every time we were back from a tour it was as if we were returning home.

HISTORY: This place was a base of a flourishing family business that enjoyed moments of commercial glory the previous century. The owner, Theodore Kyrimis was the great grandfather of Ari and Alexander Kyrimis, the new heirs and owners of the hotel. The old store, residence, warehouse and the imposing tower have been restored and converted into this stylish castle-like hotel.

PROPERTY: The typical architecture of the area does not allow for big windows and not many rooms have a full sea view, but there are plenty of verandas and terraces to make up for it. The interior of the reception, the small museum-like room and sitting room on the other side are decorated in a superb way that combine the tradition and history of the place so cleverly, that match splendidly with its contemporary comforts and discreet luxury. Rooms and suites are so elegant and tastefully appointed in country chic styling that beg for long afternoon siestas. They are designed to stay cool in summer and warm in winter due to the tick stone-walls of the local architecture.

ROOM: Our luxurious (Junior Loft Suite) was located at the highest point overlooking the pool and the open sea. A dainty balcony overlooking the bay adds further to the room's charm and I consider it one of the highlights of the suite. The country chic interior captures a marriage of local stone and dark wood, with a palette of earthy colors, nice furnishings and linens. Its stone walls, the wooden ceiling and floor, the corner fire place, create the most romantic, and cozy atmosphere, giving an ambience of an old manor house.
A king size superb bed with the Coco Mat linen fabrics make the difference and preserve a state of constant serenity.
Facilities like robes, a hair dryer, slippers, a safe, pool towels, a mini bar, a flat TV are provided. A complimentary bottle of red wine from the management was a treat and it was highly appreciated.
BATHROOM: It was roomy and functional with a small window, a Jacuzzi, and a nice stand/shelf below the mirror. There was plenty of light in the bathroom, and the toiletries were the well-known Apvita brand, -favorite to many ladies.

SWIMMING POOL/BEACH: There is a nice swimming pool (not that big though) next to the terrace with nice and comfy deck chairs and umbrellas on two sides. The sea water on the other hand has a crystal turquoise color that is so inviting and irresistible! The pool seems quite popular mostly to relax and read a book and handy in times when the sea is rough. The waters are ideal for snorkeling, and there is a pier and stairs to the beach.
Honestly there is nothing more enchanting and inviting than getting up from bed and going straight down the beach either for a swim or letting the energy of the surroundings overwhelm your soul and mind with positive thoughts, while gazing at the breathtaking surroundings. There is a pier and stairs to the beach.

BREAKFAST: Normally it is taken at the terrace next to the pool with sounds of the water lapping against the rocky coast below. Breakfast is served right to the table, different every day and the variety is rich. It includes homemade pies, breads and cookies, cakes, variety of homemade jams, omelettes, cheese and ham, coffee and the freshest ever orange juice, enough to fill you up for hours. The way breakfast is presented in a huge crystal or porcelain platter counts a lot!

RESTAURANT: I found it excellent in every way with culinary creations. Under the supervision and guidance of Michelin starred Chef Yianni Baksevani the restaurant has been highly upgraded and easily can be compared to Top Gourmet restaurants of Athens. Traditional Greek dishes are presented in a modern innovative twist. The terrace by the water is the perfect setting for romantic candlelit dinners under the stars. On a cold windy night though we had our dinner in the dining room which is just as chic and romantic as outdoors. Matina will surely advice you with her expertise knowledge to choose the right wine from the long wine list and Elena, the top Supervisor Chef in the kitchen is an asset to Kirimai these days. She will surprise you happily with her mouthwatering and exquisite dishes. Both nights the food we had here was superb of excellent taste and good value for money.
MENU: Salads are between €10 - €13.Try the Spinach salad and vegetable Spring rolls -simply amazing! Ask for the Caramelized filled aubergine ....it is out of this world in taste and presentation. If it is not in the list ask for it. Try the Small pies stuffed with cream cheese & rose jam €10.00. Don't leave without trying the local pasta with carob syrup and fish of the day or prawns for €18.00
The Wine list includes some of the best local labels ranking from €17.00 to €45.00.
The Snack Menu is quite economic. Salad is at €8, Fried local shrimps on fish roe mousse and small herb salad at €10, Souvlaki (kebab) with pita bread €9.00. Fried calamari with smoked aubergine salad €9.50. (few examples)
Desserts vary between €6.00 and €8.00
I tried Baklava with fresh & dry fruit & vanilla ice cream -it was too sweet for my taste but my husband loved it.
We also tried the Cream cheese flavored with mint & jam, but we preferred more the Meringues with warm fruit salad and ice cream.
TIP: Guests should have in mind that service in the restaurant can be a bit slow, however the food is definitely worth the wait.

WI FI: Free in public areas.

IN ALL: A luxurious hotel and simple at the same time. It is ideal for couples and those who want to explore Mani. The stay here is so amazing in every sense that you don't want to leave the premises so if you want to explore the area better book more days to have enough time to enjoy your stay indoors.

HAVE IN MIND:
**The property is not handicapped friendly because there are many steps to get to the rooms and no elevator.
**The waters are not that friendly or shallow for small children.

The reviews of others are such that I can only assume that we hit a bad week because our experience was of a badly run uncoordinated hotel. Yes, the building and setting are superb but that is where the accolades cease. We arrived early afternoon for a five night stay to be told that our room was not ready because they were having difficulty persuading the current occupants to leave. Eventually they must have done so because 3 hours later they did. In the meantime asked for a lunch menu and the response was 'toast' or go down to the village. The receptionist ( whom I totally exonerate from my criticisms) said this was nonsense and we were eventually fed. The same happend a couple of days later when we were told by a waiter that lunch was not available owing to shortage of staff so having been enjoying a relaxing time by the pool we were obliged to get changed and traipse off down to the village.Later,I complained to reception who said that this was a mistake and that, of course, lunch was available. The rest of our stay was spoiled by a series of irritating episodes. Some may appear trivial but together leave the impression that the Kyrimai does not always live up to its reputation. Examples were that the bath plug could not be removed and, more to the point, had not been fixed by the time we left. We had rain one night and further showers were forecast.Nobody has the nous to remove the cushions/mattresses from the chairs around the pool so this became a no-go area for the next couple of days.
Staff were friendly but seemed to lack direction. The impression was that some had been laid off following a busy Greek Easter weekend but, in an hotel of this calibre, this should not impact on subsequent guests.

Many of the recent reviews really say it all. It is a charming hotel and the staff (some are family, I assumed) open and friendly. Whether the style we experienced can be maintained in high season with all the rooms occupied (I would guess only about ten of the twenty rooms were sold for the two nights we stayed) is another question.
The dinners were good - perhaps not quite as 'great' as some of the hype around the hotel would have you believe. I'm always deeply wary of 'executive chefs' who turn out to be itinerant and unlikely to be anywhere near the kitchen when ordinary customers are dining. I suspect the Kyrimai is at risk of falling victim to this culture and if I had any advice for the family owners it would be to make sure that with or without their superstar executive chef the kitchen actually delivers consistently great food.
I will however note that the breakfast was outstanding; served on the terrace adjacent to the sea and the pool, with a beautiful tray of good things to eat....and the coffee wasn't bad too, for a hotel.
