Immensely enjoyed our half-day tour with Jacques. He was informative and entertaining and showed us things we would never have seen or known if we had covered the area on our own. He tailored the tour to our interests as Canadians and to the other people from other places who were on tour that day. He had many personal stories to share which made the history come alive.

I organised a 4 day break for six of us to visit Flanders fields and Bruges from 15th to 19th June '09. Genevra at Flanders Battlefield Tours was of great help to me in making the arrangements at the Belgian end. We travelled by train from Stafford to Euston then Eurostar from St Pancras to Lille where Jacques collected us in the Flanders Battlefield Tours minibus and delivered us to Hotel Ariane in Ypres. Hotel Ariane was very good and good value but it'll be better when the builders finish outside. Two days with Jacques around Battlefields and Cemeteries was a very profound experience. He has a vast depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for World War One on the Western front. None of us were looking for the grave of a fallen relative, but if we had been Jacques (with back up from Genevra) would have made every effort to trace where they fell and where they were buried. Two days with a minibus and a guide to ourselves made it a much more enjoyable experience than sharing with 45 others on a coach.
I can thoroughly recommend "Flanders Battlefield Tours".
Jacques delivered us on to Bruges where we stayed a couple of days. Bruges was well worth the visit. We then took three trains back to Stafford, all of which were on schedule.

We visited Ypres in June doing some research on my grandfather who was killed and buried on the battlefield of Messines in 1917. We were lucky enough to pick Flanders Battlefield Tours, who helped us with research before we arrived in Belgium and picked us up from our hotel to tour the southern battlefields of the region. I cannot speak highly enough of our driver and guide, Genevra Charsley. It's not just a job for Genevra- she is passionate about the history of WW1 and her knowledge and enthusiasm enriched the experience for us, really painting a picture of what it must have been like for those men almost 100 years ago. She went way beyond the call of duty in helping us to locate my grandfather's burial place, to the extent that the tour lasted 90 minutes longer than scheduled. Her assistance has now extended to sending us maps and information to our home in Australia, and refusing to accept any payment for it. If you're planning a battlefields tour in Ypres (and you should), look no further than this company. The tour includes preserved WW1 trenches, war cemeteries, and an excellent museum and gives you a new appreciation of the sacrifice made by so many young men who never came home.

From start to finish, an excellent tour group. Very efficient in organisation and an incredibly knowledgable guide. We were so impressed with the attention to detail - photographs of the area, quotes from veterans, a tape recording and especially the anecdotal knowledge that our guide had. It made the whole experience so personal for us - so real. We felt that he had such great empathy with the soldiers who had given so much that this was more than a business - this was a labour of love. We will definitely book again for their tour of the Somme.
