We did the north Salient tour which is a half day tour leaving from Ypres and visiting various battlefield sites and war cemeteries. It was an excellent tour, our guide and driver was very knowledgeable and her explanations were interesting and thought provoking. The tour was easy to book via email and was very good value for money.

I have nothing but praise for this organisation, our leader and driver was a historian who knew the information which he provided with a sensitivity to what we tourists could take in. The pattern of the tour was finely honed taking in sites which illustrated the key events and situations. Our guide had personal family histories which illustrated compellingly horrors endured and lives ended prematurely during each world war.

The directors were immensely helpful, providing references I consulted before going on the tour.

We decided to book a Private Day tour for the 27th October 2018. It was the 104th year to the day that my Gt Gt Uncle W. Bryan 3464 KRRC was killed, and we wanted to remember him in the area on the date and be where he stood 104 years ago. We are so glad that we did.
We were met promptly by Jacques at our accommodation and after a short introduction began our visits. We called at some very memorable places around the Ypres Salient such as Essex Farm, Tyne Cot, Polygon Wood, Hill 60 Sanctuary Wood to name a few.
We had a wonderful interesting full day with the best guide we could have wished to have had. His knowledge is extraordinary and his passion for the information on World War 1 I am sure is rarely surpassed. We were humbled to visit the area at Zonnebeke where my relative was killed and reading the war diaries from the Battalion gave us an idea of what had happened that day.
It is something I have always wanted to do in my life and after 32 years of tracing my family history eventually got to pay my respects. I would not have wanted to have spent the day with anyone else. Jacques - you are a gentleman and with people like you, the heroes, stories and suffering from the World War 1 will never be forgotten.
Thank You - we will forever remember our day with you.

Whilst a very thought provoking day, the whole experience was enhanced by the knowledge and experience of Jamie’s and Genevra. Their ability to respond to our many questions ensured we were constantly kept informed in a well informed manner. They always showed interest in our quest for more details. In two cases they were able to provide specific info relating to relatives of the tour party.
Very good value for money

Genevra and Jacques gave our party of 13 a excellent whole day tour, using their two mini buses. The organisation went like clockwork with a packed lunch included. It was so good that it overran by an hour and a half.
Their knowledge of the subject matter was brilliant and it was put over in a very sympathetic way which gave us such a real appreciation of the horrors the soldiers had to go through.. Although tit seems trite but to stand on one of the ridges and stare at the battlefields they had to fight over was a sobering experience even today 100 years later. This tour made us all want to learn more. Can't recommend them highly enough, they were that good

We booked this from the UK as had never been to the area before. Will book with Genevra and Jac again next time we visit. If you want an easy tour round with no physical driving or navigating this is the tour for you. Climb into a comfortable minibus and listen to the stories of these passionate knowledgeable guides. They tell you anything you want to know, you tour round, they treat you all as part of a family and that includes any relatives whose resting places you visit,or where they fought. Cannot recommend these 2 highly enough, and to see Jac lead the Menin Gate ceremony was wonderful for us, shows how involved they are in the area and the people. A truly wonderful experience. Roll on next years tour.

We had been planning a visit to Ieper for the past 4 years but as this year marked 100 years since the death of my great uncle it was definitely the time to go. We asked Gen and Jacques to provide a tour for us which would follow in his footsteps from 1917-1918 and which would include a visit to his grave at Zandevoorde Cemetary.
All the communication before the trip was with Gen and she provided us with all the information we needed. She also researched my Great Uncle's war history. We had a day tour with Jacques where he took us to Essex Farm, Langemark German Cemetary, the site of the first gas attacks and so many other sites including Tyne Cot Cemetary. Jacques is a wonderful guide and we really enjoyed his company. We visited Hill 60 and walked through the woods away from the other tour parties. Our day finished at Zandevoorde where we paid our respects at Alexander's grave. A very moving experience. If you are planning a visit to this area I would highly recommend that you book one of the tours with Jacques and Gen.

We took a half day Flanders Battlefield Tour a few years ago with Genevra Charsley and returned this September for a 3 day personalised tour of the Ypres Salient Cemeteries, the Arras and the French cemeteries with Jacques Ryckebosch as our guide. It was an extremely sombre but memorable trip especially when seeing the graves of distant relatives and having the opportunity to reflect on their sacrifice and leave a personal tribute to them. The mix of settings from the small Dainville cemetery in a corn field to the magnificent Vimy Ridge memorial was something to see and it was lovely to have an opportunity to speak to a member of the CWGC team who work so hard to maintain the cemeteries in such pristine conditions. Gen and Jacques had clearly worked hard to prepare for our trip and the details provided about the settings, the fighting that took place and the nature of the engagements helped flesh out what our relatives must have experienced. Visits to the Australian Cobbers memorial and the Tunnellers memorial, with the story of William Hackett VC, emphasised the true nature of comradeship amongst those who fought together and died together. Based on our experience, we would highly recommend the use of Flanders Battlefields Tours to anyone who wants to undertake either a general or a personalised tour of the WW1 battlefields, cemeteries and memorials. You will find yourself in the capable and expert hands of 2 individuals who are passionate about the subject, keen to share their knowledge yet equally sensitive to the reason behind each visit.

This was a really interesting tour given by Kristen. She gave us a wealth of information nd small relevant details which is obviously the result of years of experience. She went out of her way to make things relevant. A really great way to see and experience the war at ypres.
