Camalou B&B Dikkebus via Ieper/Ypres Belgium.
This is our third time staying at Camalou and it is one of our favorites. I shall try to be rational.
Annette and Christian are quite the most favourite of our hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and they really do go out of their way to be as helpful as possible.
Since or last visit, in 2007, there have been some renovations and the area that breakfast is served in is, compared with the old area, quite exquisite. Bright, roomy and practical.
I have only two slight criticisms of Camalou and they are not really that as such. More of observations.
The spiral staircase is a bit of a problem and first timers should be aware that a bit of luggage manhandling is required and secondly this, Dikkebus, where Camalou is situated, is about 4-5 kms out of Ieper. Car, taxi or bicycle is required to get to and from town.
We ate (and drank) a number of times at “Tommies”, a pub at the end of Camelou’s road, and it was quite acceptable and reasonably priced. They are not open, however, on Monday and Tuesdays.
Camalou is a great place to stay to stay in Flanders. The only real problem is that it may become too popular and we may have difficulty booking there in the future.More
