The tour covered all we needed to see of the battelfields of WW1 from an Australian perspective. All the key locations - the Somme, Fromelles, Polygon Wood, Hamel, Poperinge, Villers Bretenneoux and others - were visited, and their significance explained clearly and expertly by Christian and Annette. They took us to places of personal signficance - my relative's grave site in particular - the location of which they had looked up beforehand. The accommodation was not 5 star, but we weren't expecting that and it was comfortable and quiet, which is what we wanted. It was fun having breakfast with the other guests. Annette and Christian also would come to pick us up from Ypres well into the night after we'd gone for dinner in the town. I highly recommend Camalou for those wanting to see the battlefields of WW1.

Stayed here at the beginning of this year. We had a good time. In September we had friends come over from Australia who wanted to do a battlefield tour. 2 friends went with another tour company, but the other 2who went with Annette and Christian from B&B Camalou had the best day ever! They went down to the Somme, France and the whole day was incredible. Thank you Annette and Christian for showing our friends around the battlefield tours, it was one of their highlights during their stay in Europe!!

The time we spent at B & B Camalou with Christian and Annette was such a lovely and warm time made by two lovely people. Christian and Annette are guides who tell stories with such enthusiasm. Incredible how they collect all the detailed information about family members who fought in WWI and show you the way to their graves. They also showed us some other memorable places around Ieper. At night we had some good Cava and talks in their beautiful garden. I find Camalou a very special and warm place to stay!

Four adults, two from Perth in Australia, had the honour to stay at the Camalou in June 2011. Annette and Christian were generous and knowledgeable hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We were shown sights (and sites!) which were inaccessible to coach parties and our hosts were patient when we spent time in quiet reflection. I recommend this venue, and the hosts in particular, to anyone genuinely interested in the WW1 Battlefields of Ypres and surrounding areas. We were particularly interested in the ANZACS and our tour was designed for us. We left feeling that we had a very humbling and unique experience. And breakfast was scrummy!

Annette and Christian provided us with great insights into the battlefields, their knowledge is very extensiv - what they don't know 'isn't worth knowing'!. Nothing was too much trouble for them, their courtesy and friendliness made the four-day trip a real highlight. An added bonus is their B&B at Camalou, it was really fun to stay there - it added to the 'atmosphere' of the journey.

Room Tip: all good rooms, just four of them.

I recently did a Battlefields trip with Annette and Christian and I could not speak more highly of their organisation and attention to detail. I was in France for the Dawn Service on Anzac Day and later in the day visited my grandfather's grave. Over the four days of the trip, we visited many cemeteries and battlefields They both have an incredible amount of knowledge on the French and Belgium battlefields.. Loved the accommodation at Camalou in an historic building. Great breakfasts and lovely dinner meals as restaurants chosen by them. Menin Gate was just the 'icing on the cake' especially when there were Australian schools represented. I would certainly recommend them to others wanting a similar experience.

Our Guides Annette and Christain have a great passion for making your experience with them one that you can not forget. Their hospitality is wonderful and their knowledge of WW1 and the battlefields is supreme. Even at Flanders Fields Musuem the staff their spoke highly of the knowledge that both Annetee and Christian have.
WE really love that Annette took the time to research out our relative who is buried at The Strand Cemetry and bring his last days to life for us.
It has been a journey that has helped our family better understand what our great Uncle did in sacrificing his life for the freedom of others.
Thank you Annette and Christian you are great hosts and we appreciated your personal touch and the attention to detail. Also we loved your accomadation especially the Duck room and also you serve a great breakfast .
If you are looking for a tour of the WW1 battlefields and want the personal touch including pick up from the train station We highly recommend Camalou . As far as we are concerned they are the best Guides .
