Attraction details
Owner description: In all, 5,139 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War are buried or commemorated in the enclosures of Bedford House Cemetery. 3,011 of the burials are unidentified but special memorials commemorate a number of casualties known or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials name casualties buried in other cemeteries whose graves could not be found on concentration. Second World War burials number 69 (3 of which are unidentified). There are 2 Germans buried here. Bedford House Cemetery is located 2.5 Km south of Ieper town centre. The cemetery lies on the Rijselseweg (N336), the road connecting Ieper to Armentieres. From Ieper town centre the Rijselsestraat runs from the market square, through the Lille Gate (Rijselpoort) and directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road. The road name then changes to the Rijselseweg. The cemetery itself is located 2 Km after this crossroads on the left hand side of the Rijselseweg.

“Bedford House - beautifully kept.”

The shocking numbers of your men buried here defies logic.
The cemetery is beautifully kept and is adjacent to the land fought over in the 1st World War.

“Peaceful and beautifully kept”

A magnificent military cemetery which is kept pristine by two full time gardeners. Not as large as the Tyne Cot cemetery but very peaceful and a fitting resting place for the brave soldiers of WW1and WW11.

For those that have never been to a Commonwealth War Cemetery: stand in awe of the most beautifully kept grounds, the serenity and sadness.

“Very Moving”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

We visit the battlefields each year, one cannot help to be moved by the sights you see, the endless head stones row on row, you look at the ages inscribed , young men 17, 18 years old some have been highly decorated. It is fabulously maintained a credit to the CWGC and there staff on the ground. If you have never been I would encourage you to go.

“Serene and Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

I find this one of the most beautiful and serene of the nearly 200 British Military Cemeteries in Ypres area. The CWGC gardeners do a magnificent job of keeping it pristine (as they do with all the other cemeteries). It is a most wonderous place in which to walk and contemplate the ultimate sacrifice made by the men of both World Wars.
