Owner description: Ypres (now Ieper) is a town in the Province of West Flanders. The Memorial is situated at the eastern side of the town on the road to Menin (Menen) and Courtrai (Kortrijk). The YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL now bears the names of more than 54,000 officers and men whose graves are not known. The memorial, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield with sculpture by Sir William Reid-Dick, was unveiled by Lord Plumer on 24 July 1927. Each night at 8 pm the traffic is stopped at the Menin Gate while members of the local Fire Brigade sound the Last Post in the roadway under the Memorial's arches.

“A must do”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Visit this during the day and take the opportunity to walk around the entire memorial. The grounds are part of the original city walls and lead to some very pretty views.

“Great to see”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Good tourist and historical attraction, architecture is fascinating and there's so many names on the walls! The service was good despite not being able to see much since people walked infront of us. Quite moving, music was nice. Lovely to pay respects to the soldiers, the heroes. Wonderful to experience.

“An emotional tribute”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Every child in Britain should attend one Last Post - a very moving experience. If you visit on a Saturday, it is usually busy, so be there a good half hour before 8pm, if you want to be under the Menin Gate for the ceremony
