“A tribute to the past”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

It is hard to believe that this cathedral and the town of Ieper were reduced to rubble during the first world war. It is wonderful that the decision was made to reconstruct church and town so that they look just as they would have done before their devastation. A fitting tribute to the resilience of the Belgium people, military and civilian, who suffered so much during WW1.

“Hard to imagine”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

That this church was fully rebuild after the First World War is an incredible testament to the belgiums and the craftsmen. Stunning stained glass and a brutal picture of Catholics being murdered makes this well worth a visit.

Lovely church with fantastic stained glass. Quite simple but exceedingly beautiful . Enjoy the atmosphere and remember that it was completely rebuilt after World War One.

“Quiet, peaceful and beautifully crafted”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

This may not be the most stunning of the European cathedrals but this reconstruction of the original, which was bombed to rubble, has all the hallmarks of the greats - flying buttresses, extraordinary stained glass and the whole nine yards, There is a 20 cent recommended donation but other than that I did not see, or pay, any entrance fee. Definitely worth a visit in my opinion...

Very quiet when we visited it. What an impressive building for this little town! Sacral atmosphere, we I like in these fast times.
