Great location, right on the Great Square. so easy to get to anywhere in Ypres. The restaurant is charming but the decor through the rest of the building was not up to the same standard. The room we had on the top floor was a depressing sage green with odds and ends of furniture, a little hanging space for clothes but no shelves or drawers. However, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom, although very small, was new and everything was clean. Breakfast consisted of rolls with processed cheese and ham (as is usual in this part of the world) + jam and danish type pastries. We had one evening meal at the restaurant during our stay and this was very good. Parking is available at €10 per night 100yds away in a secure underground carpark. The staff were all friendly and English was no problem. We would recomend the Ramparts Walk around to old town.

Room Tip: It is 56 steps up to the top floor.

We stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. We found it to be a very friendly and comfortable hotel. It was a great base for touring all the ww1 sites and especially the Menin Gate. The hotel has a history of its own and the decor was right for it. The bathrooms were lovely. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food from breakfast to dinner was very substantial and well cooked. There were 3 couples in our party and we went over on motorbikes, we rented a secure garage which worked out well as there was a music festival on the 1st night and parking would have been an issue. We will definately be returning.

Stayed on the first floor with superb rooms overlooking the square. Four of us travelled over for a cycling weekend and based ourselves at the Old Tom to keep the costs down. We were expecting a basic hotel but got so much more with a clean spacious room, super powerful shower and filling breakfast. Staff were all really friendly and as a bonus they have a lockable garage a few yards away across the square where we kept our car and four bikes. Thoroughly recommend.

Couldn't be better placed, right on the market square in the middle of the old town. a 5 minute stroll will take you to the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate (Get there by 7.45). The hotel exists mainly as a restaurant at which it is a little confused. Its basic 12E 3 corse meal is exactly that - basic. You wont starve because of the number of frites (chips) you are given but its far from fancy. HOWEVER you can order a la carte and have oysters, lobster and all sorts of very, very tasty cuisine.
As its priority is as a restaurant, the few bedrooms they have are quite neglected. The beds are too low and the rooms scream to be redecorated and refurnished. Be carefull of holding onto the stair banister too hard - it might come off in your hand.

Room Tip: Try to overlook the square - but dont expect luxury.

location is fantastic overlooking the main square, we had secure parking for our motorbikes at the hotels underground car park for 10 euros a night, well worth it as parking can be a issue, its about a 2 min walk to the hotel. Rooms are a bit tired, they need some tlc. tv reception was poor, the electrics failed during the evening so we had no power the first night and the shower/loo is a very small unit within the room.It is very clean
on the plus the staff and very friendly the food is good and its position for sightseeing great. but best of all is the price about £30 pppn for bed and breakfast a steal for its location,

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the square , take a battlefield tour well worth it

We stayed 2 nights in April 2012 and this Hotel and town was a highlight of our holiday. Friendly staff with a clean and comfortable room. We stayed on the First floor and our room overlooked the square. We stayed 2 nights and had a lovely meal in the restaurant, and breakfast each morning. The room was perfect for the setting and the bathroom appeared to be new. A great experience for us and the owner should be congratulated on the service provided.

Both myself and wife enjoyed our stay at Old Toms on two separate occasions during Yr. 2011.
The stairs with access to the rooms has slightly narrow steps. The rooms we experienced front and rear were both clean and comfortable. Our preference remains a room at the front with a view over the square.

We used the available underground garage at 10 euro and found it a convenient short walk.

On both occasions we had an evening meal and found the food and service pleasant.

Room Tip: Room over looking the square has the best views.
